I am pro wolf.
Cant imagine managing a trapline with no wolves.
It would be out of whack for sure.

You have the luxury and responsibility of managing them.
You should be pro wolf.

I am pro border.

Can't imagine managing a country with an uncontrolled border.

Ours is out of whack for sure.

I am pro wolf also, but there NO management tools in place. Letting an apex predator go unchecked is a recipe for disaster.

twice now ive shot collared wolves. Black collar on a black wolf and a white collar on a white wolf so couldnt easily tell until it was too late. The second wolf, the black one, travelled nearly 7900km in 11 months. He would make 180km round trips once a week to check an old kill site. Pretty amazing to see the data from a collared/studied wolf. I hate seeing researchers leave the collars on letting the poor animals suffer like the one in the picture. Irresponsible.

bump that number up to double digits please J.Morse
( some have fallen off wolves and go through 3 feet of frozen ice) funny what can go down a 8 inch ice hole...everyone knows that phones find their way down..... but the wolf over a beaver pond hole in the ice- and it still transmitted.

most collars are to release after a command from the sat.
so then the researcher can go and find them

Nailed it! Who woulda thought introducing these back to Yellowstone without a management plan would be a great idea? Kinda like Trudeau says “the budget will balance itself”….lol
Didn’t American frogs get introduced to Australia with disastrous results or was that just on The Simpsons? They’re pretty good at predicting the future…

These are the only 2 collared ones I’ve heard of, one was in the news and the info on this one from my cousin. On another note, a guy was in the local outdoors store asking Dan if he had cougar traps. Said he had one hanging around his house. I left before seeing if he walked out with anything.

I shot one probably about ten years ago now. They certainly wanted their collar back, but they wouldn't give me any information on it.

More wolves need to accidentally step into the paths of speeding bullets.

That sucks. I’d tell them they can have it back if they are willing to provide me all the details they have on the animal. I put my blood and sweat into legally harvesting this wolf, maybe on my own property. If not, they can collect it with a warrant….lol
But the collar animal stories I’ve heard are that they provide the harvester with the info.

I know a few people that they provided the info for, but I think they just don't like me. Lol. We have to get our wolves checked, and they wouldn't check it until I gave them the collar, but wouldn't provide any info. I should have filed a freedom of information request, but I figured if I did I wouldn't be able to believe what they gave me anyways. I killed a huge, old bear about twenty years ago, and you have to have a tooth pulled from bears, cougars and wolves here. Supposedly they age them all and what not from those teeth. I wanted to know how old that bear was, but after several years of getting replies of "it hasn't been processed, yet", I gave up asking.

On the other hand I had a client kill a big Boone and Crockett cougar. IDFG contacted him, without him asking and told him that his cat was 2 years old. confused

I just started reading “The Real Wolf”…good book. Haven’t gotten that far yet, but I guess the Idaho and the other 2 states in the lower 48 amended the ESA so the state can set their own management rules?

In the U P they have killed most of the deer, most of the coyotes, and now are working on the beaver population. Watching this happen in real time is tragic. Their skills as a predator are a sight to behold, but I have no idea where this ends. Probably when they run through all the prey that can sustain them, then disease sets in.

I have a cabin near voyagers national park and this is exactly what is happening there as well, 10 years ago whitetails everywhere now very few, 5 years ago beaver everywhere now numbers are dwindling.
Sad to watch
