I believe she was Clint’s love interest at the time. She’s in the Dirty Harry movies as well as the Ape movie.

I say he didn't know him, due to the onset of early dementia. If you'd seen Josey Wales II, you'd know I was right. laugh

Here's the real Josie Wales. The guy Josie Wales was patterned after. Bill Wilson. Born and raised around Phelps Co. Missouri and that's where they buried him.
Don't know where he was killed though. I think maybe Texas. They got him home though.

Edgar Springs, in Phelps County, Missouri is some 30 miles south of the Rolla, Fort Leonard Wood area. South Central part of the state.

My kin on my mother’s side of the family is from there. Had family that knew Bill Wilson and knew the caves and helped him. Those were hard times in the hills.

You are correct about being his love interest. If I recall, they had a nasty break up and Clint just about ruined her acting career due to his influence in the industry.

Yeppers. Hard living in this country back then. I've read 60% of the buildings on the Wire Road between Springfield and Fort Smith had been burned down by one side or the other during the War.
Was really bad in the four Missouri counties just south of Kansas City too. Jayhawkers from the west and bushwackers from the east. All of them preying on the country folk.
Eating up their stock and taking the corn and grain for forage.

Just remembered at the end, when Fletcher was making peace and saying his goodbye, Wales had become Mr. Wilson. A quiet homage to the real guy?

Also, in those 4 counties south of KC. Order #11. Around the state there are a few old houses, courthouses, etc that date back to the civil war. In that part of the state, there are none. I suspect they were all burned to the ground. If anyone was neutral before that, likely were not after.

And for those that don't know..........there are the KU Jayhawks......easy to see where they got that name. But the MU Tigers? That was the name of a local militia unit garrisoned in Columbia that kept somebody from doing to Columbia what Quantrill's raiders did to Lawrence.

Running joke..........it is said that former MU basketball coach Norm Stewart so disliked KU that he told the bus driver to make sure he gassed up on MO side of the border. Didn't want them spending one dime in the state of Kansas. Makes for a good story and might even be true.
