yah honestly i have thought about buying them but almost every one i see at fleetfarm has some problem your best bet is to return them and buy a different brand

I run mostly MB 550s but have some Duke 550s. Some of the Dukes did have a higher pan than I like but were easy fixes by bending the dog post. If I recall, I used a hammer to get it in the right position. Once they were adjusted they stayed where I put them and caught animals as well as the MBs.

I bought a dozen. The pan tension on the first 3 traps I checked was 5+ lbs and had 2 links of chain not welded completely. The money it would have cost to rechain and swivel brought the cost within $10 of the mb. Not to mention fiddling with bending the dog to adjust tension.
I took them back and ordered a dozen mb's. Every pan level and 2.5 lbs tension with good chain and swivels. The dukes are a decent built trap but not worth the little savings over the mb. Imo

Imo agree, i have serious buyers remorse over these things.... i wont do it again... $16.75 vs. $20.95, if you are running 100's of traps maybe a small savings, but you always get what you pay for.

I never had those problems with the Duke 550s. Sure a little tweaking but that's what trappers do.

I must be one lucky (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). I have 3 dozen Duke 550’s and just bought 2 more dozen 650’s on sale at midway. All have been perfect level pan, avg 3 lb tension. This was waiting for me this morning in a 650.

U guys would pay $4 a trap to have it tuned? I've tuned every brand of trap I've bought in one way or the other. No different than buying a scope and having to sight it in. Yes Sir makes a good point. ^^^^^^. I trap 365 days a years for coyotes. I go through lots of traps. QUALITY control. For whatever reason. Is not what it was 5 years ago. Here are all the traps I have had OR set up for another trapper. Duke 550 — biggest piece of junk I ever set up. Duke 650 —- had several miss welded swivels and had to Bend dog on Almost ever trap in 2 dz to get to 3 lb tension. Bridget # 3 dog less —- stripped bolt. Hard. To get 3 lb tension on a few. Bridget # 3 from MB. Was ok but 3 out of 24 had BAD out of whack jaws. Had to bend levers in vice like crazy. MB 550 —- ran for 10 years. Quality goes so BAD I quit them too. NO BS jrs from FNT ?? Got 2 out of 1 dz that IF you bare handed them? You would be cut !! Spotty welds too. Looked bad. NO BS Extreme wire levers from Kirk at NO BS ?? Almost perfect!! MJ 600 Sterlings?? Perfect!

I pay that and would pay more to buy from the company that design them an assembly done in America instead of buying copy made elsewhere that has to be messed with. I don't like buying new guns that I have to fix to get them to work right either. I guess if you have more time than money it may make since. My time is worth $42 an hour because it could be on ot. My time not at work and at home is limited so worth many time more than that honestly. I'm not messing with fixing traps when I could be setting them with my kids instead. $4. That's nothing it's not like I'm not loosing money trapping to begin with. It's not for income it's predator control and fun with the kids.

I don't mind tuning traps but I'm not fiddling with duke traps when I can buy mb for $10 more taking the chain and swivels into consideration. If the chain would have been good I would have kept those dukes and tuned them. My experience with duke over the years hasn't been great, I don't own a single one.

Perfect! interesting take, i am just a recreational/hobby trapper but i appreciate quality and workmanship. the duke 550 is just a cheap knockoff replica of the mb 550.... it is so blatant of a chinese copy i am shocked duke has the stones to have them manufactured and sell them.... seems like mb would have a slam dunk patent lawsuit on those things... i am guessing the cast jaws were proprietary to mb..... i know of no other trap manufacturers that used them. anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion and freedom of choice. i will buy no more, poor quality is my experience.

Old saying = Buy once. Cry once. F class shooting taught me that about = Nightforce. Expensive but not a single 1!in the 8 that I have owned. Had a = canted reticle or bad glass. YES. I’m talking bad about YOU = Sightron and Leupold!! LOL!!!! Nightforce is made an hour away from me, good scopes but not worth the money in my opinion. Frankly for the money I'm not impressed with them, my Leupold Mark IV gathers more light than any Nightforce I've looked through. Plus the Nightforces are like a boat anchor, super heavy. Otherwise, yeah I've only seen one Nightforce go bad, and I've seen at least one of every brand of scope that I've been around a significant number of go bad. And yeah I owned a Sightron, until one of the lenses inside came loose and flipped sideways!
