Do you have one near you? Our little town has a true Lumber yard. No computers, all hand written receipts, old time Lumber sheds W/ Sraight Lumber! On site pipe threading I know some on here remember what I'm talking about. I'll miss this when it's gone

Yes we still have one with hand written papers they thread pipe and also sharpen saw and planer blades and offer other services I really do enjoy going some of best lumber around and can find rough cut and specialty stuff there

This one has the old time needle scales (shelf model)for weighing the nails you pick from the spin bins

Yep the only thing is they’ve gone to a computer for billing, I believe the reason they went to it was it makes doing taxes easier.

We got some Amish lumber and hardware store that certainly take you back in time. Some Amish saw mills which are scary; young kids running around huge saws, skid loaders slogging between 30 ft high piles of logs.

Yes, still have one left & all is hand written. Love the old wore out wood floors from years of use. Also sold guns & ammo before NYS put to many regs in place.

I love real lumberyards. Most in my area have gone to computers but I still love them. No, I am not talking Lowe's or Home Depot.

Yup about 3 miles from my house, always seems to be doing good business when I go there, get everything cut to order. Maybe costs a little more but it's worth it

The main town here of 2,500 has 2 lumberyards the closest Menards is 60 miles away.

They used to give ya cloth nail aprens and pencils all the time around here

i work at a family owned lumber yard.my brother ownes the lumber yard.he dos the books and big sales.i work out back cuting lumber and making deliveries.small town every one knows every one else. cant imagine living in a city.

Still a family owned lumber yard here, little more modern than what some of you are describing but still has that personal feel

Old Feed Mills and Lumber Yards... Good Stuff. We have a lumberyard that has a freezer where the kids can pick out a free ice-cream, I asked the owner one time if anyone in the area had an aluminum brake, I needed a piece of J-Channel bent- he said do you know how to use one- I said yep... he handed me his Stanely knife off his belt, tape measure and said all the coil is out back by the brake, let me know if you need anything else. Love it!

There used to be several around here. One of my favorites was Walbert Lumber run by Earl and his two sons. Earl was a WWII vet and we were friends. I'd walk in with a list of materials I needed, hand it and my truck keys to one of his sons and Earl and I would talk while his sons loaded my stuff. Everything went on my account which I'd settle monthly.

Up until a few years ago we had an old-time hardware store and a general store that were the same way. Old wooden floors that creaked when you walked on them, taxidermy mounts everywhere...

There is still a custom lumber yard near me. You can't get building lumber there but you can get just about any other kind of wood. The guy was a Wall St. investor before he gave up the rat race to live a simple country life. Him and his son run the place and they purposely keep it old-timey.

I miss those days. I think you can still get pencils for free @ the one lumberyard.

if my brother is gone for some reason i put out my working out back.sign.some people leave a check for a bill they owe.some leave a note of what they got .we still give free pencils.not so much nail bags.
