Took my little Female Gyp Betsy out for her last hunt. She is a little over 16 years old and today I had to carry her back to the truck. She seems to be having problems in her hips. She has a vet check in the morning to get something for it besides tylenol. I guess she will live out her days at home in her bed. My male is only 9 so he should be OK but I think she needs to spend the rest of her days at home with us and the Grand kids when they come in.

Sounds like she has earned a nice cushy retirement!

She needs a good safe anti inflammatory like carprofen or galliprant, pending some bloodwork. Beagles go till they can’t go no more! I miss my Sampson! Wishing a cozy retirement for Miss Betsy!!!

She did good hunting that many years. I haven't had a hunting dog make it past 10.

I have been watching her and she can still get in and out good thru the doggy door. I think she just cannot do the hunts anymore.

I bet she will enjoy the home life. Especially if she likes kids.

She has earned her place on the front seat of your truck.

Mines a slacker but she’s living large and getting larger. No regrets if the dog has its best life.

She loves the kids and usually ends up sleeping with them.

I'd take her out hunting, every chance you get.

16.... I'd say she earned a comfortable bed and a dog bone. Carprofin works wonders on sore dogs.

P.S. the only pooch equal to a lab is a beagle.

So I got to bring her home today. She had Laser Surgery on her back/spine. No morejumping for awhile and I carry her up and down the stairs since she sleeps in her Bedroom on the second floor. The vet was surprised that she was in better shape than most16 year old Beagles. But her hunting days are over and regular Daily walks are the key now.

I remember taking the last beagle I had out to his last hunt. He certainly gave it his all, but it wasn’t much. A few days later I let him in, in the morning
and gave him his food. He just stared at it and couldn’t eat. I took him in to the vet right away and the vet said that there was nothing that could be done.
I had the vet euthanize. I cried. Even now it makes me sad.
