I'm certainly no pro wood turner. However, I'm always looking for something to use scrap wood on. I decided to make this wooden mallet for the chisels I restored a couple of weeks ago. It's maple with strips of red oak and walnut. Looks pretty good is suppose.

looks good
even better is in a for your Trappers auction, usually the auctioneer wants something like that to open the bidding up
so first item up.
Auctioneers can have the right to bid on one item......and they want something to close every sale with a rebounding thunk noise

Very neat Fin, I have gone down many a rabbit hole on the tube. Some really obscure stuff out there.

Do you have a picture of your starting "blank" before turning?

No. I started with a scrap of 3X3 maple, ripped that in half, glued in a piece of 1" red oak. After that dried, I ripped it the other way, glued in a 1" piece of walnut. After that dried, I squared up the ends and turned it.

Looks great Finster! How is the welder holding up? I have not seen any welding projects posted.

I rarely use it. It's mostly for home repairs and such. There's a few things in this world I'm horrible at. Welding is high up on that list. I just don't do it enough to be good at it.

LOL... Thanks.... Yea, I'm no pro. This is basic turning. Something you would do in Jr. High. If they had a shop program like they did decades ago.

I was lucky. We had a full wood shop and a full metal shop. Ironically, I was never in wood shop. I spent all my time in metal shop and got a job as a tool and die machinist after high school. Now, all of that is gone and if they even have shop, I'm sure they make trinkets.
