I would try a call lure or bait/lure with skunk. Better yet set on their tracks. Putrid smelling bait will get them rolling like Sniper said.
Cavens hiawatha valley(bait). Milligan and hawbaker call lures. Cavens violator 7 all these have a good skunk kick to them. There are a lot of others but these come to mind right away.

Thank you sir. Have you ever personally used it? If so how well or bad did it go? Did OK with it, other baits seem to do better here for me. Your mileage may vary.

Where I’m located we don’t have much oppossum let alone much raccoon unless you’re down in river beds. When I started out trapping my dad gave me some putrid smelling bait and that first season I had a hay day with coyotes and foxes and thought maybe something strong here would at least get their attention to check the trap out cuz like I said, I haven’t even had tracks near a trap yet.
EDIT: went out to check trap line this morning and got my first bobcat.. not what I’m going for but was cool to have something on the line.

I chop up a lot of frozen carcasses for bait in winter.Fresh, and some at different stages of taint for different uses and for different species. Tainted frozen beaver has a sharp smell that lasts a long time and will call predators from a long waysSome species are not interested in eating tainted meat and other species prefer it,but it works as a long distance call for all. I just chopped up a couple wolf carcasses that have been hanging frozen for a couple weeks. They have a very strong smell much different than the tainted beaver but the same as far as long lasting smell and carry a long way.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

If you really want putrid/nasty bait, just take the stomach contents of the next coyote you catch and put it down a dirt hole. I’ve caught coyotes on it before, when a possum didn’t beat them to it. I did that. Removed the stomach contents from a coyote a few weeks ago. It was composed of what appeared to be primarily deer hair. It had almost no odor that I could detect. There were no partially digested mice or meat of any kind. So, either I have Covid nose or whatever he was eating didn't cause an odor. I may try another and see if its got the good stink.

If all it had was hair, then he didn’t have a full stomach. You’ll know when it’s full of nastiness!
