I love my MJs with the cast jaws I think the surface holds better.

For $3.00 more per trap per dozen I think I'd go with the cast jaws.

Although there's nothing wrong with the outside laminations. I had all my Bridger # 2 offsets outside laminated a few years ago. Less damage and no problems since.

Eh...wot?

I will be the minority and go with laminated. I have had poor luck with cast jaws and tractors. Steel can be bent and not break. Just my opinion.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I’m curious too, is it just the holding power of cast that’s better? Has anyone lost an animal with OL that they feel cast would have held? Does cast last longer?

I have both but haven’t personally seen much if any difference, I have very limited experience so am not an expert by any means.

Good point. I get a a lot of mashed traps each year because I primarily set tractor trails and I tend to crowd the edge of the track too close. Lots of my Northwoods 1.75's get run over. I take them apart, beat them back into shape and put them back into service.

Eh...wot?

I didn't think cast could bend....???

And I would think a tractor would not break it.

I have the cast mb-650. I absolutely like them so far. They hold coyotes and bobcats well. The cast jaws have a rougher surface which I believe will hold better than the smooth jaws even with OL or IL.

For me I would buy some of each ant try them out. But I'm also a hobby trapper and don't buy a lot of traps but have an assortment because I like to try different traps out and see what I like and don't. For example I like how bridger #2 dogless sit flatter and bed easier for me than my 550s. But I like the wide smoother jaws of the 550s. And thoe I don't think the larger spreed of the Bridger's have saved me or the smaller spread of the 550 cost me a single coyote I do think I like the haw spread being larger but don't like the sharp edges on the Bridger's and I messed some up filing them to much for the pan to function.

If I buy more or get a small wire welder I would probably get the laminated Bridger #2 dogless at this point just because it's easier for me to bed then and that translates in to geting the sets in faster. Maybe I need to try some Jake's Sterlings, or ,long springs to avoid freezing down though. And that is how I never seem to have matching traps. One advantage to that is putting cheaper traps out of it is a thrift possible area.
