I got a birthday soon. Mom likes to get me things that I don’t want and wrap them in the prettiest gift bags. Scented hand soaps, squishy fleece socks, picture frames with rhinestones and crap all over them… She buys them on clearance and waits for the opportunity to turn them into presents. God love her, she is so frugal. Well I think my aunt bluntly told her to stop doing these things and just give me cash and let me buy what I want. So I couldn’t believe it, she handed me a hundred dollars and said “get what YOU want!” And then later “let me know what you pick out” and I chuckled inside. Lee’s fleshing knife is on the top of my wish list. Thanks Ma!!!!!
(She’s gonna be so disappointed!) If you want to quit getting the junk you don't want and keep getting cash come up with some girl thing to suggest that's what you used it on. Maybe you got a Mani & PEDI or if that's to much tried a full body rub down or few hrs at a spa just to try it out and see what it was about. My mom is similar on gifts getting thing in sale and stocking then back until she need something to give someone. But also in all of her purchases she will buy poorly built junk as long as it looks nice . It works for her because she doesn't keep things long. ( Unlike me that had my great grandparents dining room set) She gets it moves it around the house several times then gives it away if she can off load it on someone. Every now and then she does get a good gift. When I was in 6th grade she got me a sharping stone I still use, she got my boys nice lined blaze orange sock hats for Christmas that actually like and use. Just today I had a nice pack of pair of leather work gloves on my bed at her place. She likes to buy things and leave them for me. ( It's better than when she tries to go home maker and cook) ya avoid that at all cost. But she tries. And at times it's edible.

I think it's better off to give cash at birthdays and Christmas for older kids and adults. I have so much stuff that I will never use that I got as gifts.everyone can use cash.then if you go out and buy something you truly want the next time they come over show them what you bought with the gift of money and how much you appreciated it and means to you.something you will always cherish.

I’m 100% with my wife with buying her gift 100% wrong I give her cash unless she circles exactly what she wants.

And I don’t wanna sound ungrateful. But I don’t need a THiNG. We live a simple life and are very comfortable. I would much rather have dinner together or just spend the day shopping and talking. I don’t need all the knick knacks and junk. The day is going to come when I’m going to need to pitch stuff and my stupid sentimental guilt will kick in and I’ll say I can’t get rid of these pajamas with The kitty cats on them cause mom bought them for me Same here we live in the country the dog, wife and I it’s a good life.

It amazes me how so many have so much and are still in happy and miserable. As long as we are healthy our small amount of monthly bill are paid we are happy. We are so blessed already. Yes I work a lot by choice and not so much for things but for end goals of early retirement and not needed to work off the farm at all hopefully within the next 12 years. I'm looking forward to hearing how you like your new fleshing knife when you get it. Be sure to save a few skins to try it out on if it won't get to you tell after season is over.

I always give gift certificates. My philosophy is the recipient gets what they want not what I want them to want. Right. I have a 20 year old niece. Why would I drag her to Bass Pro and Cabelas? She has her OWN interests. For a while it was expensive makeup and while I would never waste money on that; I gave her money to use as she pleases. I rarely can buy her a present anymore. Except she does like the Harry Potter stuff and after she got her wisdom teeth out, I bought her a Ravenclaw Lego set and she was pumped about it! It makes me happy that I can go toy shopping for her!

Now you can make her a coyote claw necklace, mink or muskrat muff, and or red fox scarf thingy for around her neck to keep her warm.. she may need come dryed caster and gull badders and such for the shelf for potions class. And mom liking girly things may like a fur product made from som of your fur.
