Got a report a few hours ago about a fisherman through the ice at a local lake.
Our ice is nowhere near thick enough to be walking or fishing on.
Scuba unit called in, looking like a recovery instead of a rescue at this point.
Had a guy asking about ice quality yesterday on the FB group Fishing Lake Ontelaunee. Everybody told him not to attempt it. I'm hoping it wasn't that guy.
Eh...wot?

Sounds bad, actually going thru ice is no big deal as long as you are equipped to get yourself out and have a change of clothes if in wilderness. If you trap beaver in winter regularly you will go thru the ice sooner or later..

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

From the Fire and Rescue in my county:
“Crews utilized cameras and divers to search the area. Their findings led them to believe a person did fall through the ice, but self extricated prior to FD arrival, and just abandoned their equipment on the ice. Command terminated and the assignment available.”
Eh...wot?

If you trap beaver in winter regularly you will go thru the ice sooner or later.. My record if 4 consecutive days. I finally pulled everything Christmas Eve Day. I am hoping the cold made enough ice for me to get out again tomorrow or Monday.
I have nothing clever to put here.

First ice I wait to go with company... Think a few of us hitting the ice for the first time tomorrow afternoon...
My favorite time to be on the ice is at 2 in the morning with nobody around... Always stupid when someone and the only first other person starts drilling holes 50 yds from you... People suck We put out a circle of tip ups to establish our "territory".
the wheels of the gods turn very slowly

we had a couple guys go through the ice last week on snowmobiles on lake WI
one self rescued , the other was thrown a line a ski rope apparently and hauled in
Float snow suit credited for making this possible
seems like a good investment if you go on thin ice or over rivers on a sled
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
