My pics are quite old....I haven't snared in quite a few years. I just made that set to see if they would walk right into it without trying to hide or disguise it. And I can't tell you what lock it is as it was repackaged by by the company I got them from....Halford Hide in the city of Edmonton. You can goggle them and get their site on your computer.
Here's what the lock looks like...

Leave the snare right where it is at and throw away all the sticks and stuff off the sides or maybe lay of a couple of them on the ground each side of the snare, you'll catch your coyotes.

A few cedar branches would also be more inviting.

I will give that a try after a few more days. Thanks They use this dry waterway all the time in winter. I could set some footholds but prefer snares for yotes.

Lawdog, great pictures and how's the cat business going. Any luck?

Snowed out a few times a week so far on the cats I did not have a bunch of waxed dirt made up it’s been a struggle they are there I’ve cut a bunch of tracks so far a several on cams.

Next year drop a dead cedar across a pinch points and let them make passages through the branch’s hang snares when they show clear trails.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Cats are less bothered by fencing than canines, in general. I have found that reds can be fenced with small stuff. Most of my snaring has been on snow covered trails being able to stick twigs, etc. in the snow.

Keep the opening low and an easy for the deer to jump over a snare best to set places the deer won’t want to go in the first place or are not around.

If you set snares where they travel, you do not need to choke it down. If I even move a good weed in they will leave the trail most the time. I would have more luck snaring a combine track in wheat stubble with nothing else, than choking it down with a bunch of brush. If you see a track and can see why they walked there set it. Add a single blade a grass. They are already traveling there, you don't need to fence them in. Just hang the snare center over the track.

MjM is spot on. I find that coyotes seem to notice almost any change on a trail. Suttle blocking seems to work well for me and only it is from material that is close at hand. If you are in sage use sage. in juniper use juniper. Don't use a lot just steer them a little . Some places I will lay a small piece of branch under my snare to draw their attention and get their eyes down and away from the snare.

I can't believe that cop put me in the back seat when I clearly called shotgun.

First time setting for coyotes. Set cable restraints 6 today. 10” off the ground and 10” loop. I’m using 7x7 cable 3/32 diameter. Made them and attempted to “load” them myself. I’m using slim locks. Excited for the check tomorrow
