For those of you planning on a new well and are planning on a freq drive pump let it be known if your pump controls get below -5 the controls stop working. They will restart as soon as the temp rises above -5. Ask me why I know this also ask why I was crawling under my house at midnight looking for frozen pipes when it was a -20.

Can you locate the controls inside? How could you tell it was controls and not a frozen pipe?

I've never thought of putting a well pump on a freq. I need to do a little research in to this.
What was the reason for this? Submersible pump? Interesting.

Yep -- alot of them dont like heat above 100 either without being shaded. lots of reasons to use a drive including smaller gen to run it (inrush at startup) and constant pressure at a wide range of flows as well as smaller pressure tank requirements or less and less cycling of a larger pump.

You can definitely put the controls inside if you know to. We went to freq drive because we could put the pressure tank in the well casing and not fool with a pump house. When I was under the house I knew it was too warm to have frozen pipes so I went to bed until morning. I called a friend who is a contractor and he told me to go warm up my controls that I was his third call that morning. By the time I dug up a heater and tarp the sun was hitting the controls and I had water. The controls are now wrapped until spring and next summer they will be enclosed. My well is 440 feet deep with static water to 90 feet so there was plenty of room inside the casing for the pressure tank.

If you put a vfd on a motor, make sure you have a grounding strap on the motor, or it will take out your bearings alot faster.
