I Googled Simms waders. Looks to be those yuppy looking fly fishing waders. Those wouldn't last me thru the 1st beaver swamp down here.

That's always been my take on them also. Could be wrong. I've always bought the cheapest breathable waders I could find and planned on doing a lot of patching. I always have a backup pair ready to go. It is definitely getting hard to find any at a reasonable price.

The swamps down south are loaded with prickly/spiny/catchy everything’s,,,,,

Working in those conditions would be extremely hard on waders

do any waders actually last??

Haven’t seen Kevlar waders

I'm about to order a pair of Dan's. Have never tried them, but the Brushbusters seem to be well made and about right for me. Low end pair look too thin. Snake proof pair look too stiff.

Lacrosse HD hip boot (Outriggers) are plenty thick enough...but last pair didn't hold together...heel and seams leaking within a year of use.

simms fan here, but understand that they’re not going to hold up working in southern swamps

Quick google search for Kevlar waders turns up a company out of Sweden

They’re out there

I use my Simms for fly fishing, I walk alot, slide/climb down banks, push thru berry patches in addition to all the typical breaking trails to get to the river in different spots.
I have had the stocking foot ones and currently have a set of boot foots.
They are easy to repair, last a long time and if you have a failure even after a couple of years they will replace them free.
My current boot foots are a free replacement from a leak on the boot.

As far as yuppie fly fishermen, pretty much all the other fly fishermen I know use Simms, Most of the dudes that fish with bait and spinning gear use cheap neoprene waders. Most of those guys always seem to have at least 2 pairs in their vehicles for some reason.
I expect my waders to last a good 5-8 years of hard fishing. I've been told the neoprene ones usually last a season or less. I looked into using the cheaper ones for the potential added warmth as I fish early spring right after ice out till May then from Sept till ice up (Nov. Usually).

Lol! Those waders would consume almost the entire payment for one of my average beaver jobs. Almost.

I wear waders from October through April trapping. Wear them on and off fishing during summer. Need a durable and lightweight boot foot wader. Just looked at prices of Simms. Case closed.

Digging around on that Cabelas site today I found a $299 pair of Simms on clearance for $179. Free shipping. So I bought them, I ain’t proud Lol. They’re good waders they just cost too much! $299 is a lower end model cuz it ain’t offered in a LS size. I can make lg work tho.

Sometimes ya got to move fast...stiff waders would impede that and might result in a bite.

The problem with them is that if your trapping out of a canoe, is that the cuffs hold a awful lot of water that is supposed to drain out the back of the mesh on the back of the cuff. But if you're walking in & out of the water on the land it does drain out pretty nice. But crawling into a canoe is that the cuff is face straight up and not down until you get in and sit down, So 4-6 times of this your canoe is pretty full of water.

So I'm wanting to know is there any other really good quality waders on the market that you have worn or seen a buddy wearing that will hold up for more than 1 season of trapping?

Since the outer layer doesn't keep water off your feet, can you open up the drain holes at the bottoms of the outers to speed up the rate in which they drain?

OK so I just got off the phone with Rogers Sporting Goods. I asked them if I would put in 1/4" or 1/2" brass grommets in the front of the cuffs to be able to drain the water out if that it would void the warranty? They told me that any modifications or any alteration to the waders of any kind that my 1 year warranty would be voided. mad
