This is just a guess, but I'd wager that the beaver hatter market is about at its peak. Any uptick in beaver pelt prices would have to be due to increased demand for higher quality heavies...not used for felt......and I haven't read/heard of that demand increasing.

Great point beaverpeeler, and I agree with you, but everything comes to an end. Enjoy the ride while it's here; use your best judgment when to jump off.

I have NEVER come out ahead by holding on to fur. I’ve always lost even more money than I would have if I would have just sold it at the time.

And boy oh boy is my WNY castor worth a lot less than Western select. I'm grinding all mine for lure except for a few of the very best. I sell when the markets high and grind when the markets low. This for me is a grind year.

may I place an interjection here; For your 10% of the shipment that's 64$
and the rest stays unsold 90% of your load, drying up to nothing the next weighing

I feel that Richard Hilton getting shut down on the auction he was planning on selling his 200,000 tanned coyotes at hurt the coyote market more than Canada Goose did. When NDFTA had its sale going there was one buyer that claimed he was buying for Canada Goose and he never bought a coyote. Was Hilton selling all of his coyotes to Canada Goose?

I just dropped off money fur at the FHA agent. Didn't see any beaver. Guess nobody here is excited about $30 beaver. What year is this? Oh yeah, 2024. Not 1980.

By holding fur do you guys mean waiting for the FHA sale? Those that did that last year were rewarded nicely. Just look at what most beaver sold in the country did prior to last year's first FHA sale...with the exception of one sale (I think in Arkansas) most beaver sold for a lot less than what they went for later at FHA.

I've never been a big proponent of shipping castor to FHA but with country prices so low i feel like this year I have little to lose so I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let y'all know if it was stupid or not later. LOL

And Our "serious player" and main source of info handles 10s of 1000s of beaver and pounds and pounds and pounds..like 1000s of pounds of castor with international contracts .

And he says and has been saying they beaver are starting to meet with resistance and he expects them to take a hard hit.



Gibb..is there any truth to the rumor that groenwald..and you..as an agent for grownwald , bought the castor FH had for sale since their last sale?

It's kinda been hush hush with no prices being admitted too but that is the rumor in the castor market 8⃣ now


I know what it was offered to our buyer for and it was a lower price than the market at the time but he had enough for his orders and didn't wanna hold it cause he knew the market was gonna tank so he passed. He's very happy he did because there's been 10 .00 castor bought in the country by GF.


Our source was contacted by FH and asked if he was interested in buying the castor they had for sale and he passed, thabkfully for him..

Time will tell Cathryn. It looks like I'll have to take your advice and sell early.... by default, since I haven't got any way to get my beaver into North Bay economically since our FHA agent passed. If I had that option I would take it since I'm not convinced that the felt market has completely peaked. I've sold a lot of beaver for less than $10 averages so right now I'm in hog heaven no matter.

Last year I averaged $26 locally on my best beaver and then when the rest of my beaver (that I got about a $21-22 offer on) hit the second FHA sale they averaged $33 before commissions.

The overall auction avg could go down because there will be more crap beaver pushed into the pipeline after the auction sales last year.
But good beaver will be higher than last year,and that is the only avg that I care about.
The posted auction averages do not reflect the avg for our section of fur here.

On the other hand if there are lots of buyers competing for limited quantities it could be a real rodeo-seen that happen many many times over the last 50 years at the auction on various species.

If that happens,the spring auction with its higher percentage of HVY beaver will be interesting.

Didn't seem to matter last spring.....paying close to same avg for southern as northern....what's changed?

And those comissions stay with the trappers to run our auction house,not into some private guys big personal bank account.
