I've tried searching the forums and must not be hitting the right wording. What should I be doing to dispatch a skunk caught in a foothold? I've seen the acetone / needle method suggested. I plan to start running DPs for the first time to hopefully thin out some coons and understand that I will need to plan for the skunks as well.

Any help would be appreciated.

100% my fault, gentlemen. I guess that's why I couldn't search it out. Newbie mistake. Appreciate the quick responses.

.22 LR. leave it lay for a day or two. Then shovel to bury it. Not worth the smell to process it at this point in your trapping career.

Set heavy in the area, as every predator knows a skunk spraying was under duress and will come looking for the free meal.

Skunks are easy to dispatch. And they are worth trapping. In fact they are probably worth more then coons and coyotes and muskrats.

Skunks are one of the few furs that ARE worth putting up. Hide and essence easily sold for good money.
Smell isn't bad to me and if dispatched correctly shouldn't spray at all 90% of the time
Carcass and empty pods can still be used for bait afterwards
