Anyone still shoot one? Found one I have wanted since high school Ruger heavy barrel redpad yesterday and thinking about picking it up. $800 bucks.

Bought a cheap Remington 700 40+ years ago at a small Walmart type store that thing was a tack driver.

Have a 788 Remington, good shooting little gun. An older Ruger is a nice gun too, I'd grab it, if it doesn't do what you want , at $600 should be easy to get your money back

I have a one in 700 remington. Put a timney trigger on it. Has killed a lot of stuff. I shoot nosler ballistic tips at coyotes. Had it awile. Kinda beat up looking. Carried it many many miles. Still will reliably hit where i aim it.

I’ve got the one your talking about, great gun. Lots of Cats and Coyotes to its credit. Back when the “Boss” came out years ago, lots of people bragged on ‘em pretty heavy - - - I called my Ruger, The Boss Beater .

If the barrel interior is not shot out that’s a decent price.

I do, still have my Parker Hale from 1986. I get made fun of by the younger crowd but when it speaks there is usually something dead at the end of the trail. Mine has a thin barrel. I had a Ruger with a heavy barrel in .25-06. I sold it for a lighter one.

Just passin through

Definitely, got 2 - 788s, 1 - 700, and a model 70. All 4 will shoot great and get used by me and family.

I was at the Shot Show a few years back and everyone I talked to recommended the Savage. Probably wouldn’t have been my first choice if not recommended- love it. I have a predator scope on it and it drills tacks

If I could have 1 rifle, it would be a 22 250.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Sad to say but $800 is reasonable for that gun in good condition.

Should have bought semi load of them 40 years ago @ what....$275?

I have a Savage.

It's what the 223/5.56 wants to be when it grows up.

Mine chroneys 55 grainers at just over 3500. I am using IMR4895. I could push it faster but not a lot. Very accurate loaded that way. Flat shooting. I shot over the back of several coyotes when I first got it. Tore up several by shooting at the top of the back expecting more drop.
