Makes me think I'm getting too little for my "sustainably produced" beaver felt that they say they're using. I'm no good at posting links but it was Nick Fouquet hats I was looking at.

Nicks last name is appropriate for how he is obtaining low and selling high.
Youre getting Fouqetted.

Lol. That’s the nature of the fur trade. After everybody else gets their cut there’s nothing left for the producer.

You got that right.
In the fur industry manufacturing markup is 125% and retail 175%

Good for them. Their claim of beaver being "sustainably produced" couldn't be more accurate. We need more of this type of advertising in the fur industry, but yes I'd appreciate a bigger cut of that retail price as well.

What do you figure, about a quarter lb of felt per hat? Less?

Same in every industry, the raw product is the cheapest in the line till whatever it is is made into something and sold. Pulp wood is still about what it was 40 years ago yet fuel and vehicles and everything else has gone up a bazillion percent during that time. But people still produce it.

Not my circus, not my clowns.

Same way every cattle farmer feels when he sees the price of beef is selling for in the grocery store. The lowest man in the supply chained gets bent over the worst.

There is value added, and costs incurred at every step up the ladder, from field to garment.

Trappers are free to add that value, navigate those costs, and capture those "obscene profits" all for themselves at any level they desire.

Totally free. One of the lowest barriers to entry of any of the world's great industries.

Calculate the avg cost of diesel required to put a garment in a customer's hand, after it leaves the trappers hand.

Hopefully it becomes a fashion trend worldwide and is a boom for water trappers. Like Canada Goose did for coyote trappers until the enviros pressured them into using fake stuff.

I'm hearing that is indeed the case. Even S. Korea is buying felt hats.

Don't get wrapped around the axle about how much hat makers are profiting from beaver felt hats. China will be making them soon, and put the people making quality Beaver felt out of business. Then back to $10-$12 averages. Just enjoy this possibly short lived boom in beaver prices while you can and not worry about feeling like you aren't getting enough. Just like furniture, the guy that cut the wood for the fancy cabinets gets a tiny fraction of what the cabinets cost the final purchaser.

We could use a little negativity about the fur market. LOL Everything has been so rosy the last few years.

Will they? Maybe they can but last I heard they still had issues getting raw furs into the country. Theyd have to get that problem fixed and get factories built. Demand will probably drop before they can get that going in time to matter.
