For those skilled in the ways of greys. Going up to the cabin for a week after Christmas, had a big male coming through on game cam about every night earlier in the year. Would like to catch him on this time up. I was always told greys have a small home range. Any advice on sets, bait, lure etc would be appreciated. Was going to run dirt holes with two 1 1/2's tight, one each side tight to the outer edges of the hole. Was taking Locklears Federales and my old faithful Cavens Hiawatha Valley Predator Bait. Also wanted to try their Terminator. Lure I had some Hawbackers Grey Fox. The area I live in doesn't have greys, so I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks!

Bobcat urine and gland lure seems to draw them in pretty good.

All the lures and bait you mentioned will work. Just think like you want to catch a cat, block him down hard, he will step everywhere but your trap pan. And they lill work a set from behind if given a chance. Dirt holes and trash pile sets work great for me.

Marine! Dirtholes with semi-heavy blocking. Don’t use heavy pan tension or a large trap. Put in several and let’er rip, potato chip.

Hawbackers grey fox and and a mouse down the hole worked good for me when I was a kid. I got one on trail cam for the first time in a long time this year.

I was trapping an area that was loaded with Grey fox sign and those little rascals can sure test your patience. Had to move out of the area because a logging crew moved in. I plan on going back in later when they finish logging with some smaller traps. I was able to catch 1 after being dug up 3 nights in a row. [Linked Image]

I’ve caught two in an area that the owner was getting pics of them every night. Caught 10 reds before we caught the first grey.

When you upload the pics there's a button to the right that says rotate right or rotate left.

I don't think you can edit it after posting but not sure

If you have snow ,follow the tracks and see if they are running on logs or fallen down trees. They love to run on logs.Hang some cables or put two footholds on the log with a stick laying between them to make the fox step over it and into the trap.If you run cables for them run them about 6 or 7 inches off the ground and a 7 or 8 inch loop.

one of the very best gray fox lures i ever used was back in the early 80's, a fellow gave me a half ounce of pure tonquin. He told me only three drops per set..... it was like a magnet to gray fox. whitetail deer also loved it.

Yup, can't get better than a recipe posted from Mr. Grey fox himself, TT. Thanks for the repost.
