Do we have any Tman members that live in or are from Albuquerque? I am getting stationed there starting in January. I’m looking for some advice on what to do this spring and summer. I’ve heard there’s decent fishing/bowfishing in the canals and plenty of prairie dog towns just outside of ABQ. How is spring Turkey season out there?

Any other tips will be greatly appreciated.

Will you live on base or commute?
Lots of mountains 1+ hours away. Depending where you go turkey hunting it can be good. 2 limit. They stock various fish throughout the year near and in the Rio grande. Lots of stream fishing there's some boat fishing

I went to a Sheepdog Response hand to hand and pistol class there last year. Scariest place I’ve ever been. Target store had 3 guys with 9mm at the door. Maybe I saw the bad parts

The ABQ is very rough in parts. Other parts are really nice.

Breaking Bad covers this.

Lmbo laugh They're all over especially in the heights.
Downtown was nice it's not anymore. We went to a Brazilian restaurant for my birthday like usual and it was crazy. Albuquerque is known as Albucrazy haha. Why I ccw. The current and last mayor ruined Route 66 (Central).
There are nice parts. South of I-40 is not so nice which includes KAFB. There's tons of craziness in that area. If you live off base go north of I-40.
Lots of close places to do predator hunting and hunting in general.

I heard it’s pretty rough in some parts so I’m staying on base. Sounds like that is the correct choice haha

It was bad in 1965! A friend and I drove down then, to get his family’s last trailer load and bring it back. We we in a light blue mopar, which only matters if you know the rest of the story! We got stopped by the cops, three times before we got there. Got in town, found a motel, and got pulled over two more times. Ask the cops every time what was going on, course they wouldn’t tell us anything. Next morning they raid us at the motel. Search all our belongings and the car, and they finally tell us that we were a match for a couple guys that stole a bunch of stuff in Wichita and were headed west, in thee same kinda car! grin We were just a couple dumb kids that weren’t even out of HS yet! Was an interesting trip!

Roger that. I never cared a bit for Albuquerque. Was stationed at WSMR and didn't mind Las Cruces and Alamagordo. Desert was new to me and I was amazed at how much wildlife is in the desert. A tarantula on the highway stands out 50 yards before you get to them. Scorpions, nice mule deer, gambrel quail, both rabbits...also oryx and Ibex.
A road trip to the Hatch Chile Festival might be interesting too.

Even Bugs Bunny knew he should have taken a left turn at Albuquerque.

Both are great if you avoid the tourists.

My NM place is 35 mins north of Taos--almost CO. I don't have many neighbors but the ones I have are Buddhists, ranchers and old hippies. So far, so good.
