If you get a Smith be sure to get one that headspaces off the front of the case. Those half moon clips are a royal pain in the backside.
I have nothing clever to put here.

If you like single actions, Ruger makes a convertible revolver. .Comes with both 45 Colt and and .45 ACP cylinders. I have one and the acp cylinder us not accurate. To big a jump before the bullet hits the forcing cone is my guess. But I also have not shot it much I bought it from a cousin when he had linebauh build him another one. Linebaugh would not use the Blackhawk fraim only the Bisley frame. He said it rolled better under heavy recoil his guns are built for than the Blackhawk framed guns. I like it but have allready went through my handgun hunting phase 15 years ago and don't do much with it. Mostly bought it from him so he had the money to dump into the other gun he was having built. One of these days I will get one of my presses set up at my farm somewhere and load some food long Colt rounds for it. With a stout rugar load and Hornady xtp it's a shooter and I saw my cousin shoot a lot of deer with it beyond what most think of as handgun range. The acp cylinder would be ok as a last ditch all I can find to shoot or don't need much accuracy and it's the o ly gun I have to shoot the only ammo I can find.

( I do this. I don't just buy it becuse I want it I have to have a reason it makes since) he may be different but that would be a guess if you were asking the question of me. So I don't use that black hawk and have not shot it 50 rounds in 7 or 8 years. I have a few of these justified reasons to keep it. If things get bad I have the option of shooting 2 cal, if I scroung ammo in those cal. More of a reason to het a 357/9mm Blackhawk for the ability to have 3 calibers plus not leaving brass laying around. 2 it's not eating anything and they kids may end up wanting it some day. 3. I may decide to handgun hunt again at some point( but highly unlikely may as well bow or x bow hunt).

no one needs to justify a new gun to anyone but themselves if they want it an have the money then they should get it.
so if he wants a 45acp revolver 625 s&w would be where I would go
anything with a long jump that tries to do too many things doesn't seem to do them well
so you have a 357 that can do 38 of course and 9mm in a pinch but 9mm limits the range due to accuracy of a .355 bullet sliding down a .357 bore with an inch of jump to the rifling
ditto on 45lc , 45auto rim and 45acp
the 45lc , 410 isn't much difference
I have things that really I haven't shot in years that only take up space but if I needed money I might sell them but since I am not in such straits they can stay and might have use later. some aren't hardly worth anything like a little 22 youth marlin but I might have grandkids some day. I paid all of 65 for it might get 100 for it and it doesn't take up much space. or my old trapping 22 pistol the ejector finger is broke but it still shoots just not fast on the reload in the condition it is in might be worth 50-60 dollars but I keep in around any way
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

S&W Model 1917 Army, .45 ACP, with 1/2 moon clips, and bored out cylinder to take .45 LC.

You can sure do what you want, but IMO the .45 ACP was designed to kill man sized enemies and if I ever thought there might be a need to drop a bigger target (say a bear for example) I would sure never regret having a .45 Colt. Pete correctly points out the problems with having a longer chamber when firing the shorter .45 ACP but to my way of thinking the shorty rounds would never be in my gun when I went into the wilderness anyway.
Just a thought.
