I've had several people bring in poorly stored fur for Christmas money. I'm wondering if other people are seeing the same thing? Why would somebody hang almost 100 coyotes and fox in a metal garage over the summer?

I sold some fur I held over this weekend and had minor bug damage on the eyes and lips of a couple of the beaver button enough to down grade. Got down graded a bit on the otter that were stale but I knew that was possible and didn't have time to sell last spring. Life just got in the way, no skin off my nose. But I didn't store them in a garage and didn't have anywhere near a hundred.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Some folks just don't know what can happen to put up unrefrigerated stored or carry over fur thru the summer months. Insect and mold/mildew damage is always guaranteed. Even rodent or bird damage can happen in some cases.

Because it would cost more than the fur was worth to refrigerate all summer, mebbe?

I was going to try and keep 22 spring beaver in the furnace room until mid January. I Konked em about once a week, keeping an eye on the floor & checking between them now and then. By mid June I notice tiny shells on the floor….buggers! One had a spot about the size of a dime eaten away near the ear. Dropped them off at FHA that weekend and got myself a freezer for behind the shed. I just need a bigger one…lol. But great for everything, carcasses & bait, lures don’t have to ruin pumpkin pies anymore (kept my lures in the garage fridge, which was also used to store over flow from our kitchen fridge)

Well, did they get mad at you when you told 'em the fur had no value? That would be a typical trapper reaction.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

I learned that and didn't need someone to tell me they were bad. I looked at them saw the holes threw them in the out door burner and went on with it. Only thing that made me mad was how much time I had in getting them fleshed and on boards. That was several years ago. I have only fleshed 2 dee4 and 2 coon since.

One dee4 and one coon wen well except for the amount of time I had in the. The others had hair falling out when I was done so I tossed them quit for the day. That was 2 or 3 years ago.

I guess if I keep having more health issues and end up disabled I will have the time to learn and get good at it at a slow pace. ( looking like a better possibility with the few more odd thing randomly going on. I'm really starting to believe I do have MS) neurologist appointment next month. So more and more test($$) but the side effects I read from many of the meds. Ya probably won't take them and just decline naturally.

Not mad, but a bit irritated. He's going to send them to our state sale like he did last year with stale fur and said he didn't get docked on those at all.
