Yeeeppp got two more to add to the work bench. Was chatting with Dad about building him a Recce rifle type deal for his style of hunting ( finally just asked him if he hates heavy guns with annoying levels of recoil why does he want a AR10in .308 so bad , now he's look hard hat either a 6.5 Grendel or 6mm arc grin ) and he goes , " hay you li working on guns want a project?" Why my dad even asked dme that is beyond me lol. Walk away comes back with these two saying it would be nice if I could fix them up. eek

So these have been in the family for at least 80years from everything I remember . Grandma used to say we had guns so old they probably remember when ten men couldn't afford to buy a shell to put in it . That would then go into a lot of stories about rabbit drives and bare foot in briar patches with throwing sticks . But yeah their old , been rode hard and put up really wet.

Actually saw my dad kill his very first deer with the one on the right , was at least a 75yd shot, doe walk out between two trees in the pasture we where walking in th middle of . Dad me and my older brother in a line looking like some goof balls, she stopped and hair stared perfect broadside and Dad welp, slug right in the boiler room dropper her like a sack a bricks, what happens after that....welp y'all would say I was a liar or hallucinating.

Ever way I hope I'll be able to do something here, like a legit traditional refurbishing. Really it's just finding new stocks and rebluing. Might add some nails or something round to the new stuff to keep the original look. Welp guess it's time to start going though all these gunsmithing books my father in law left me

Good and worthy project. I will say the paint splatter designed tape adds a nice touch.

You sure have your work cut out for you. Those old single shots go in the junk pile around here. Good luck and I hope you get them up and running again.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Lol they actually function just fine, mechanically at least I know they both fire just fine( my shoulder hurst thinking about it) it's just the sticks har held together with a combination of tow kinds of tape three kinds of epoxy and just pure will , grin

160 - take those old single shots to the Amish areas they love them and will pay well for them, at least around here. They do want them to work at the time of sale though. My dad worked with some Amish while I was away in college and they convinced him to sell off the Steven’s 20 ga I killed my first goose with. He didn’t remember that detail apparently. If I ever find it I will probably pay 3 or 4 times the value of one to get it from an Amishman.

I would leave them just how they are. I would prefer a pretty gun if i was buying it but on a family gun the scars just tell a story of the history.

Here you go wolfdog. One of the two I bought from my wife's grandmother after her grandfather died. Him and his brothers got them at 11 and put food on the table with them. Deer to squirrel fell to them. This one has been my primary use shotgun the last several seasions. BUT THAT white tape is starting to come loose so I probably will put some type of coating or hardener on it. I could try to get new wood and or refinish it but kind of prefer to keep it exactly like her grandpaw left them. Plastic forend hillbilly repaired broken stock that looks like a beaver chewed on it. But I point that old pos like pointing my finger. And it feels like I'm keeping her grandpaw alive each time I take it hunting. ( he was like my grandfather also since we started dating when we were 16. I loved that backwards old man.,)

the Ruger SFAR is neither heavy nor has much recoil
the 20 inch barrel model comes in at 7.5 pounds
ringing steel you can easily watch the impact through the scope because it comes with a fairly serious muzzle brake

I would take that stock as an opportunity to try sanding down that stock and fiber glassing it and building back the chipped off parts

if it breaks again you can always replace it but I think it would be a cool experiment in salvage work

even if you just end up painting the stocks a dark walnut brown it really wouldn't detract from them

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Those old shotguns got abused bad but still shoot good.
I dont know how many I have bought for 10 bucks,re finished the wood and blued the barrells and sold for 10 times the investment.

I didn't know you could do that in Canada. I have a PILE of single shot and double barrel stocks but they seem to not interchange and it depends on what day of the week they were made. Many get cut up into knife handles.

160user When they come into town- first order of business is to get a truck/boat/ski-doo gun
that's the grocery getter
For sale and buying;
But if it is a Bingo night then you have to offer the going rate for 10 cards ( carefully watch the eye sight of granny she may only be able to play 5 )so the offer goes down on sales.

Since you seem to have piles of everything laying around, lol.....do you happen to have a forearm for a remington model 30 shotgun?

If it were me, I'd keep them as original as possible, less the tape.

I was thinking the same thing. You might want to preserve those initials if they have some family historical significance.
