The beagle is done plugged up very little production in the last 3 days she seems fine but I don’t want her to go down hill before I do something with her. We gave her pumpkin, probiotics, oat meal, olive oil even wetted her dry dog food down to keep things moving along in an orderly fashion. Did see a little progress this morning but not a lot, well nothing to brag about.

Took her in for X-rays yesterday and a couple saline shots under the skin to keep her hydrated that just cost $150 for the visit. Yay The wife wanted me to go to the family Christmas 120 miles away and leave her in the house for the neighbors to look after the dog. I said you want to leave her in the house after giving her several laxative acting meals with no way to be let out in an emergency? I would not wish a mess like that on anyone that’s helping us out just crazy thinking.

Then the idea was to block the dog in the kitchen I said I don’t want my kitchen spackled on my worst day so I just stayed home with the dog to keep watch on how she’s doing. I thought the wife would try the dog or her ultimatum I’d sure miss her biscuits and gravy then.

What remedies have worked for you folks that got the job done? confused

Could be an anal gland issue. Has she been scooting her butt lately?

Eh...wot?

A good syringe full of mineral oil. If you think there is something like a bone blockage a couple of big globs of vaseline as it will disolve the bone; just a few things i've had to do over the years.

I've had just the opposite problem in my years of owning dogs. Pepto Bismol usually cleared that problem up.
In your case, what about crushing up a stool softener tablet and mix it in with some soft, canned dog food?

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

So, what did the X rays reveal? A compacted bowl, mass or blockage of any kind? I know beagles will eat almost anything as I have had several in my life. As stated, swollen anal glands can become so engorged that they can restrict fecal flow at times. You would have thought the vet would have done the gland expressing during the examination if it was needed.

Lube your index finger well and enter the rectum and feel for any obstructions or masses. Sometimes this will stimulate a response. Might be a good idea to take it for a walk outside afterwards.

I’m also curious what x rays showed. And if you spent $150 on a consult, radiographs, and subcutaneous fluids, that is very fair!!!
Is she truly constipated or does she just have urgency? Sometimes they will strain because of inflammation and not actually constipation. Did radiographs confirm constipation?

Vet did the bung poke nothing in there the X-ray showed a blockage but she asked if the dog might of gone and we missed it so I’m guessing the blockage must of been smaller then she expected was the feeling I got out of it. If the problem got worse she would take another X-ray to see if anything moves. With today’s progress that could have been the blockage will see what shakes loose tonight.

Maybe take her on a brisk walk for a half an hour or so. If she will go. Just like us, that can increase motility of the gut

The X-ray showed a full stomach and a blockage but the Vet was not overly concerned from the sound of it. I’ll see what goes on tonight.

We've used coconut oil to help our dogs a couple times. It gets fast results.

A good walk will help in stimulating her. If you go out ahead of time and squirt some predator urine and if you have any predator droppings lying around, place them there also. Walk your dog so she picks up the scented area and she may be inclined to want to mark it also.

I rebuilt my log splitter hoses today I had her out several times during that time and walked her up and down the driveway.

A couple cans of Hormel Chili should do the trick.

I have nothing clever to put here.
