Myself and my brother are looking to take my father on a guided antelope hunt. Old age is closing fast and we want to head West with him while we still can.
Not wanting a fancy hunting lodge experience, we are content with local hotels/AirBnB's and cheap diners. Long walks and rough terrain are probably not an option at this point. Blind hunting would be an option though. The only week we can go is October 12-20 of 2024. He is still a tremendous shot, so we don't have to get archery close to the animals. Cost isn't much of a concern, we are more focused on getting an opportunity and the overall experience.
Any feedback would be great.

Without having points it will be hard to get a tag. Might look at New Mexico for a private land hunt and I think Oregon has a guide tag program.
Might look into a auction hunt too

Some of the reservations offer hunts on tribal.lands.

If you don't have preference points for any state; look at guides in New Mexico in the area of the state you want to hunt. Find a guide that fits what you are looking for and go have fun. I went to the Raton area so I could go to the NRA Whittington Center after I got my antelope. If you end up going there make sure to shoot the White Buffalo target at the center. I can't recommend the outfitter I went with as the accommodations and food were not very good. I did get a nice antelope though I would have preferred a better outfitter. Antelope I got by Raton.

If you have no preference points you'll certainly have to buy land owner tags or go with an outfitter. Unless of course you would want to shoot a doe, there are still over the counter tags in some states for doe tags. The Hualapai Tribal Reservation in Arizona has tags available for great hunting for 2024, but they are spendy.

When I started hunting in Wyoming, I got in contact with Chambers of Commerce in different towns. Some of them had lists of landowners that would allow hunting on their properties. Some wanted a "trespass fee" some didn't. It varied from landowner (rancher) to landowner. I found I had better success rates hunting private property vs. public land, even if I did have to pay a fee to hunt.
That was nearly 30 years ago now, so I'm not certain if the Chambers even do this sort of thing any longer. All you are out is a little time making calls or searching the internet to find out. Good luck!

Good luck! 30 years ago you could get a tag. These days the popular blm areas take 10-12-13 years worth of preference points, and there is no such thing as leftovers in a unit with access.
