I bought this tomahawk and a bunch of hatchets, in a box lot, at auction, about 5 weeks ago. I believe it is styled after a trade axe, except for the bit being upswept on top. The only marking I can make out is HB, which is likely to stand for Hudson Bay. I don't think Hudson Bay trade axes were actually stamped HB. I am guessing this is a pretty well made reproduction. Does anyone know anything about this tomahawk.

The style is much like those made by Daryl Meier, a contemporary blacksmith from Carbondale, Illinois. I don't think he ever stamped his with "HB" so that may be the work of someone else. I traded for mine in 1978. In the 80's I sold a ton of his hawks at rendezvous. They were excellent! His hawks always tended to take a little larger handle as the eye of the hawks were a little larger than other production hawks.

As far as I know he sold his tomahawk line to someone else. Last I talked to him or heard about him he was deep into smithing swords.

Anyone have any knowledge of this hawk? Note the metal studs in handle.

Looks a lot like a naval boarding hawk.
