A dawg will try to eat a flattened toad--or any other roadkill for that matter.........but will not eat anything with a pill in it ???

it takes TWO pieces of lunchmeat to get our dog to take a pill.

wrap pill in first one, making sure she sees the withheld second piece. as soon as she takes the first piece, offer the second.

I have to bury their pills in big chunks of Velveeta cheese without them seeing me do it.

Mash a pill up between chicken livers and they might nip one of your fingers to get to it.

I just straddle them and open their mouth and shove it down their throats. I’m not fighting with a youngun over meds and I dang sure ain’t fighting a a dog.

Pretty much had to shove the pill down our cur's throat. Then he got a treat.

Liquids are easier. When I had dogs I monthly wormed with ivermec. Draw up the dosage in a syringe, top off with corn syrup and squirt. They rarely resisted and if they tried just holding the mouth closed got it down.

open mouth, drop pill in, hold mouth shut, give a quick blow of air towards nose, watch for him to swallow.

I’d rather give a cat a pill than a liquid. And I’d rather give a dog a liquid. They can be absolutely ridiculous about meds.
Or I guess we could just put the meds in rotten roadkill and be done with the struggle!!

But yes I agree with the blow in the nose method mentioned above! Also when you give the “poisoned” cheese, the one with the pill…follow up excitedly with a piece of non tainted cheese! Fools em! Makes them greedy!!!

when the chihuahua popped an eye out I had to feed it meds for 10 days

the dog hardy eats a treat so pills were difficult, luckily licking peanut butter from my finger works and I could hide the pill in that I ground up apples with the peanut butter and butter in the food processor to make a chunky paste she really liked and I could hide pills in easily.

the other 2 put it in a hot dog piece and it will be gone so fast you better watch your fingers , an that is if it isn't already a meat flavored pill like the heartworm one

Mortar and pestle and a splash of heavy cream.
A little work, but works every time.

Well, I think I have the ticket next time I have a dog that needs meds...One side benefit of my wife being on tube feeding is I had to crush her meds to get them into the tube. To do that I got a neat little pill crusher that turns a pill into powder that I am sure will be easy to blend into their food or whatever.

I thought about putting them into her mouth and blowing in her nose but not real sure that would work....

Some good ideas—- tried most already. Probably going to go get a “ pill gun “ and get her in a half- Nelson and shoot them down her throat.

Usually this sort of thing ends up with me and the dawg rolling around on the floor biting and scratching each other but we’ll see I guess…: appreciate the input all !!

Should have mentioned three pills and a capsule twice a day…… so a pretty good sized bunch we are dealing with

good luck to you.

I've never had to force Abby using the second treat...she scarfs the first [pilled] one so she won't miss out on the second bite.

Ask your vet for a can of EN. It’s a gastroenteric diet and it’s highly palatable and you can make little meatballs out of it and try to hide the pills in that???

Our little mutt Dixie would take a piece of cheese with the pill inside, run to her bed, and eat the cheese, spitting out the pill in a minute or two. Then come back looking for her second "reward" piece.
