For sure bucks roam. Many come and go...never to be seen again. But, therein lies the challenge: take the best buck your property has to offer. I realize that many hunters don't have the time or the patience to single out a mature buck and attempt to take only him. I get that..but the Op was saying there was no excitement in his deer hunting anymore.

This is more a private land challenge..not public land, but find and single out your best buck and hunt ONLY him. If you're able to do it..that'll put the excitement back in your deer hunting....

Here’s a question if you’re hunting say the one 170 ten point and only him and a 190 12 point shows up you’re saying you would pass the 12 good for you if you can do it but I’d say you would kill it

jalstat,
I thought you were smarter than that....^^^^^

I guess I should've explained it better.....word for word, maybe.

Good grief!

I had to come back to this post and edit it: Yep..I'd pass the 190"....lol. Who wouldnt?

I’ll speak for Swamp…NO. That would be stupid, lol. If the biggest buck you could find was the 10 and the 12 shows up, YES you’re shooting him. That question doesn’t even make sense.
If you’ve lost your excitement, pick up a bow. If you’ve lost your excitement with archery kills, target only mature deer or management deer. I’ll admit I still get a thrill shooting does with a bow, but that gets expensive real quick. A box of bullets is $25 and I get 20 bullets. 3 broadheads are $50!
If you’ve lost your excitement then change it up. If your property has that 170” 10pt then you’re passing up 150” deer. Talk about excitement!!

Here ya go. Our season on the property is coming to an end due to the quail hunting about to start and the owners spending a lot of time here so the manager said start shooting some management bucks and does as fast as you can. My son and I have said no rifle bucks for us, so here’s my management 8pt. And yeah, my heart was pounding.
I’d rattled and a young 8 came in from behind me and stopped, he looked back towards the East out in front of me which caused me to turn around and see this guy coming in. I was already standing but had my optics in my hand instead of the bow. As he stepped behind a big oak I swapped optics for bow. As he stepped behind another oak I drew. When he saw the other buck he stopped and I released. He jumped and started back the way he came and dropped. Nothing special about him except he got the heart pumping and one of the 8’s we wanted to take.

… what’s a management 8 point ?

… nice shooting wannabe… let us know the dry score circumference variance between the right and left teste after the 30 day drying period … judging from the symmetry of the ears I’d guess you’re in the p&y minimum of >.008” on teste score

Insert profound nonsense here

Management 8…8pt that won’t ever amount to anything and eating food that could be eaten by 10pts with huge testicles!

where I live I bow hunt in the big woods the only thing food wise that deer get is acorns and whatever else they can find. I also hunt out of state and we use mineral blocks during the summer to draw deer in to our trail cameras and many other forms of wildlife.

As president of the trophy testicle hunter’s association I’m here to tell y’all there’s a difference between size and symmetry…I’ll pm you the details I guess … or maybe arrange a meeting to discuss ovality and other asymmetric deductions

.. if you really think you’ve got a trophy pair I’ll assemble a scoring panel

.. let me know

Is this the same organization aka the Quality Scrotum Management Association?

I'm surprised that you wouldn't enjoy scouting the area you hunt finding sign that big deer leave behind then unraveling and dissecting his core area then when conditions are right move in for the kill at that moment you no you have fooled a mature buck (5 years and older) and at the same moment you decide if your going to kill him or let him go? For myself that's the joy of hunting, not knowing till he's in range, I have friends that hunt with camera's they have watched the bucks grow up on camera and have them named they kill lots of mature bucks, but for myself it's not the same.

Send me the address of where to send them. I’ll use USPS and they should arrive sometime late next week. And if a certificate is due for trophy status please mail it and the testes back for framing.

The real question is. Does anybody here trap anymore?

No bait, no lure, no urine, no trail cameras. Just go out with some footholds, body grips and cable restraints. Find game trails and set blind sets.

Also, I’ll add my name to the list of people who hunt deer. But I also hunt other species. I’m also a big fan of not caring how another person hunts as long as it is legal where they decide to hunt.

Some of y’all take your own opinions a little too seriously.

Anyway, have a good one.
