Anybody know the price they are paying for copper, brass, and aluminum these days? I noticed in my area aluminum cans are only .25 a pound. Not worth selling for that. Aluminum scrap probably the same.

I think prices go up in the winter. I don't keep track, though.
I just wish I could find a decent scrap guy. I've used two over the years. One (I found out later) was a convicted pedophile. The other guy thought he could come get scrap without permission and go through buildings looking for stuff.

I need to check what price is for scrape iron too. I have no idea where the markets are at.

I know good carbon steel is very expensive for blacksmithing. Its so expensive that I went to scavenging metal.

That's a biz that's loaded up with scumbags that will screw you just a quick as it takes to say it. ie:
They won't weigh the actual scrap, this one place makes you dump it into a bin, THEN they weigh it, problem is they have 3-4 tare weights painted on the bin, and they won't tell you which one is right.
They all screw you on "FOIL", only pay 2-3 cents a lb, even if the material is the same alloy as cans and much heavier material, because when they dump ACTUAL foil into the crucible, it will flash and be lost to the mill.
One place won't tell you what they're paying for cans. They want you to dump it into a bin and THEN will tell you what you get, take it or dig your cans out and go home.
Find an honest buyer and guard him with your life!.

Sheet today (mix of Metal) 120.00 a ton today
Brake rotors 220.00 a ton
Sheet Aluminum clean .45 cents a pound
Copper Bare bright $2.80 a pound. #2 copper $2.40 a pound. Yellow brass $1.40 a pound

Every scrap yard is different. Each have there strong markets. I personally use 2 different yards.

Metal prices do fluctuate a lot. Especially now is a down ward trend. Come spring prices tend to creep upwards.

Chicago pricing but gives you an idea where they should be.
Prices are poised to go up in December.

Copper ain’t worth this much…lol. I’d post some different pics I got from our area but they’re ugly, this one’s pretty tame.

Every year, they get brave and start cutting the grounds and bonds in our stations. They think they know what they’re doing, but each one they cut, she’s getting hotter and hotter. One ended a few years ago when he went to cut the final 500mcm bare copper wire on a green monster. It was the reference to ground for a 66kv delta -12kvwye step down transformer. Or an employee goes to a part of a station that we don’t go to often to find a stump sticking out of a snowdrift. Kick some snow away to find a frozen corpse with stubs left where his hands were. Was trying to climb the fence to get out. Just another quick blip on the feeder at 3AM in the morning.

I have seen some of that myself being that career field all my life. In most cases they know just enough not to get killed because they have been working in the electrical field and know the dos and donts. The slow learners are dead.
