I've been working on an updated version of the Alaska Trappers Association video "Sharing Alaska's Trails." It is designed to help pet owners, skiers, hikers, ski-jourers and mushers to know when they might be inadvertently be running their dogs on a trapline. It discusses types of sets and other clues. Also goes into some detail on how to open various types of traps and snares, as well as how to subdue a dog and apply a bit of doggy first aid in case a dog accidentally becomes caught in a trap or snare.

The videographer asked for any "old photos of you when you trapped using a dog team." Here is what I came up with. A blast from the past. Good times! (And I was pretty skinny back then too!)

That's quite a picture Pete one worthy of a frame or publishing in a book if not both .

I'm certain Ken could add something to the mix as well .

and the marten clamps onto his nose !!
I don't miss those episodes either !

I ran a dogteam on a remote trapline for one season, that cured me. It's been the Iron dog ever since.........................

Every once in a while my wife or I say to each other how fun it might be to have a small dog team. Then we think for about 30 seconds and how much work it would be.

It is a lot of work and hassle if you need to leave for a while and find a dog sitter. But, it is sure a nice way to travel and very dependable....as long as you don't lose them. It's also nice to have the company if you are going to siwash on the trail.
