You may know this James but Jason Hairston who started then sold the Sitka clothing company proceeded to set up the Kuiu product company. As they told me there were retail outlet non compete causes signed for the Sitka Sale, hence Kuiu is not carried by anyone. Online sales or their own stores which are opening now.

Who makes a good baselayer? Something warm, something durable. First lite furnace quarter zip is my favorite thermal top. I wear it pretty much everyday all winter and hand wash it once a month or so. They go on sale from time to time.

Kuiu has some good base-layer clothing, in various thicknesses. So does Simms, I believe. Simms has or had a sale going over Cyber-Monday.
I have a top and bottom Smartwool base layer made mostly of wool. They've served me well.
I generally prefer wool to poly. Warmer wet and dry.

Duluth Trading Company.
Jim They started really good, but I think they've slipped a bit. Their older flannels were really nice. I am not impressed with their duluthflex pants, they wear out quick. And all the firehose pants I've bought have shrunk in length after washing. I believe their warranty has also changed for the worse.

Oh, and here is a place where you can find good deals on close-out or discontinued items ranging from clothing to fishing and hunting gear, often from reputable manufacturers:
Sierra Trading Post.
I just bought a Sage Spectrum Max fly reel there for about 45% off undiscounted list price available from Sage dealers. I got the last Sage reel, but they currently have a lot of Lamson and some Hardy fly reels discounted. They also have some Simms and Smartwool clothing. Might be a good place to look for a base layer.

Sorry to hear that about Duluth. I have a wonderful (but not cheap) rifle case they made, and a duffle from them, but I haven't bought anything for a decade at least.

Thanks for posting that. I may check them out. Some companies come up with the ideas and sell the Brand. Mossy Oak for instance. I got tired of seeing foreign countries tags on the back of all my hunting clothes and set out looking for American made. I knew it would be expensive, so I started there. First Lite, Sitka, Kuiu, even Filson and come to find out, all made in foreign countries. Filson does have a few products still made here, but that doesn’t mean the materials come from here. I found Forloh and everything from the needles and thread is made in USA. It’s expensive and yeah you don’t “need” it to kill a deer or turkey. But it sure is nice to know I have clothing made in America and can hike 10 miles and go from freezing temps and snow to rain and 70’s all in one hike and stay warm, dry, and then cool by just taking off layers and rolling them up and putting them in my turkey vest. I take my hunting very seriously and like to be comfortable doing so. I also wanted a pattern that worked no matter where I hunted. Granted my wife calls their Deep Cover pattern a Walmart Pajamas pattern, but it works in the South Georgia pines and swamps all the way to Washington’s mountains and everywhere in between. I was skeptical at first until I got a trail cam pic of me walking in front of a camera. My son even called the minute he got the pic and asked what camo I was wearing because it couldn’t be the Pajama pattern, it looked to good, lol!

I love Filson stuff but i there portlandia northwest marketing makes me vomit. . What is it you dislike about their marketing? Filson is the only big company I've ever seen run a pro-trapping ad on television.

Might consider taking Levi off that list since they are big opponents of the 2nd amendment.
