It begins: 8 hour wolf trapping course mandated by the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks(7 hours & 15 minutes was dedicated to ethics,45 minutes to a marginal wolf trapping lesson). Then I purchased a trapping license with the money going into the Montana general fund. Reading and re reading all the regulations to understand what exactly was required by Montana law.Next I searched out purchasing some snares which was quite the process dealing with or not dealing with snare suppliers. My snares arrived. They were then tagged and cleaned. I spend many days and drove many miles searching out the right locations. Beings I could not trap wolves to the end of big game hunting season I still was in hopes of setting up on a gut pile or two when the season opened. Now the waiting begins. I am sure I will have sleepless nights. I must visually check my snares every 48 hours. I will keep you informed to my progress. [Linked Image]

Good luck hope you nail a bunch.
Thinning out an overpopulation of wolves really improves a trapline tremendously.

Nice! I put up a few of these in a swamp between ponds. We gotta use rams here unless you got an RTL.

Have you used those in the past? I had high hopes for them but they hung up too often for me and didn't lock tight on my coyote snares.

Hope you do great on the wolves.

Others here may not have heard the disappointing court ruling in Montana that delays the majority of wolf trapping and snaring until January 1, out of concern for grizzly bears... even though grizzly bear conflicts with fisherman, hunters, hikers, and cyclists have resulted in far more grizzly deaths in recent years than modern wolf trapping has ever caused (none). Pretty good. Be nice if we could use plane snares, but these beat leg holds. Just carefully picking a spot and hang it any way you can to get the loop at the desired height. In deep snow, hanging them upside down from a tree is effective.
