Got a pack rat that has moved in to one of the buildings at work and boss asked me to get it out. Was thinking about one of my marten boxes with a number 1 right inside it then bait in the back. Never messed with them before so looking for some advice. Thanks

Yep...they're pretty easy to get with a 110 or similar. #1 should work just fine too. Set a bunch of traps and you'll get it. I blind set or block them instead of bait but give them all a try. Have had lots at the house.

Keep for bobcat bait. Stinky nasty things

Thanks Mike. I gang set it hard then. Not a very big shed so shouldn't be very many places for it to wonder around.

Poly-fill should work. They love to steal that from my cat sets

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

Glue some rubber shelf roll pieces or fiber fill as stated. They love to take and chew the rubber pan covers on my exposed cat sets. They take all debris available to their huts. If I need to look for my pan covers I just check out a few close rat huts and I usually find them on the outskirts of the hut somewhere.

I thought I already posted on this topic, found that I did. 2x

Tin foil ball (1" or so) with a dab of peanut butter on the bottom, hang in a cage or in your marten box.

I've had real problems getting packrats to go into a box. They seem more paranoid than one would think. Maybe in a shed where they are use to all kinds of boxes and stuff they wouldn't be as paranoid. In the wild I like a coil spring with low pan tension, lightly covered with some ground duff with some crimped corn sprinkled on the pan. I've caught a bunch this way with #3 bridgers.

I built 50 boxes for packrats only to find out they wouldn't go in them

Copy all and thank you for the info. Think I will gang set the shed and see if the little bugger will come out of hiding. Will try the tin foil ball and Mr Jameson suggestions. Thanks again

Don't know packrats but we got their first cousin the wood rat.

I find fruit based works better than your typical nut based rodent bait. Though they'll hit both. Fairly easy to tag with snaps if you set where they are actively running. But whatever you do don't pinch one. They educate very easily. Glueboards are not a good idea for this reason, they are big enough to pull loose.
The nice thing is ours are one and done being solitary and not colony.

I block off their entrance options except for one and set a 110/120/150/155 of whatever flavor you have and wait for the thump. It doesn't take long.
