Wyatt and Sam,16 and 14, live in AK but came to WI to hunt deer with Grampa. Note Grampa and Dad drinking beer as the young guys do the work, as it should be.

Great family activities. Super that the grandkids got to harvest a couple of Wisconsin deer.

Wow.
That first picture looks like a Blanchardville buck.
It seems that bucks get smaller the farther East or West of Blanchardville.

The deer they were skinning was my doe from Saturday. We had to get It done before I could hang the buck. Field dressed the buck weighed In at 187 lbs. H e was still In the rut and chasing a doe when Wyatt shot It.

We had had that buck on camera for several years and It wasn't getting any bigger. We figured It was at least 5 years old. It had a Inside spread of 24".

Sam hunted with me and after not seeing any deer for the first 2 hours . Said grandpa this deer hunting Is real boring. I said spot on 7 hours of boredom and 10 seconds of excitement.
Long range killa loaned Sam his 7mm. That deer was dead before It hit the ground. It was Sam's first time shooting any kind of rifle. I'm really proud of the boys.

It was a great hunt and I got to spend quality time with my Grand sons. Thy are heading back to Delta Jct today. I will miss them.

Pam posted the pictures and for some reason they were duplicated and she couldn't figure out how to delete the second set.

I think that was the first beer I have drank In several years. Just not much of a drinker. I'm getting the buck European mounted for Wyatt. They took some venison home to Alaska.

You're skinning that deer upside down.

That's the way I always do It. It just seems easier to hang It by the neck then trying to spread apart the hind legs.
Besides that deer was gutted In the fur shed.

Great memories for all Beav. I skin my deer the same way and it's always worked for me. I had one of my sons and the two grandkids here opening weekend. My son Grant and I each shot bucks (8 point and 7 point) and two adult does. The 3-year old girl was fascinated with the butchering and watched for hours. She had no problem eating venison chops for supper. It was a fantastic weekend but Brenda and I were happy to get back to our quiet house again when they left on Tuesday.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.
