I am thinking of getting some radios that show the location of others in our hunting camp. I believe Garmin makes some like that. Does anyone use hand held radios like this and how well do they work ?

I have used hand held radios for years, but not any that track others (guessing it has GPS capabilities). Range seems to be up to a mile in relatively level terrain, and less as the hills grow higher.

You can get an app for your phone that does that if you have a signal....

I didn't like the ones that I used. They beeped after you let go of the button. I want silence when I'm hunting.

We have Motorola hand held radios now and they work ok but the newer models seem not to work as well and costs twice as much! We mountain terrain and there’s others that hunt the same land. If we give out the location of where you are with a deer on the ground. The next day there’s other people hunting in your spot. So if the radio that gives your location without saying it on the radio it would be great.

I thought it would be handy to have a GPS that you could use to mark a location, like a trap location and then when it snows you can come back and go right to where the trap even tho its buried under a bunch of snow. But it seems that most GPS are not accurate enough until your ready to pay big bucks. Most hand held GPS units are accurate to about 3 meters or approx 10ft. I was hoping for more accuracy.

They make an app for your cell phone where you can see where others are if they are logged into the app.
