Last Friday on a Ga coastal NWR.

Bonus tags. Shotgun with slugs only.

1st time in years I've shot deer without first making sure if buck or doe/of the age of the deer/if big enough antlers/etc.

That brought back memories of my pre-game warden days...and it was sorta fun to ground check em.

Now looks like a fun sit!

I remember back when, we'd hunt with a big gang. Shotgun slugs. Most couldn't hit squat so they'd designate me as the shooter on drives.
Was So fun pumping 5 rounds and piling up 5 deer. smile

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

That spike in the center would make two nice handles for drawers or something similar if you're interested in that sort of craft. Good meat haul for sure.

No....Jekyll is state-owned. This federal area is Harris Neck NWR.

https://www.fws.gov/refuge/harris-neck/visit-us/activities/hunting

I don't think they've had any form of public hunting on Jekyll in decades. USDA WS handles any deer/hog issues there now.....unfortunately.

Good hunting.

Those slugs are deadly on game or other such needs. You using Brenneke slugs? I remember as a young fella we had punkin balls as we called them. Kind of like using a muzzle loader. Many years later they brought the early version of a rifled slug.

Yeah those old Foster slugs out of a smooth bore were like lobbing bowling balls into the woods.

I have nothing clever to put here.

My 3" 870 has a 20" smooth bore barrel with rifle sights. It is actually my patrol shotgun that the state of Georgia allowed me to purchase when I retired.

I've tried several brands of slugs I had on hand thru it. Out of those I sent thru it, Winchester XX 2.75" rifled grouped the best. I was able to shoot two 3-shot groups of 3" at 50 yds....back to back.

I've never tried the Brenneke slugs.

That 870 was my first shotgun my dad bought me in the early 60's. Still have it and use it. Those are good groups with open sights. Free hand at that.
