I was reading the worst gun thread and got to thinking , clean firearms cause way less problems with jamming or accuracy.
I clean my guns every time I shoot them. Even just one round , and it gets cleaned.
If I have not shot a gun in a while , every 6 months or so , it gets a quick going over mostly with a microscopic film of oil and wipe down the furniture.
How often do you clean your guns ?

More harm is caused by improper cleaning than anything else. I wipe them down to keep them from rusting and I will clean the barrel and action when function or accuracy shows the need.

I like to clean every time one is fired. Wiped down with an oily rag if it was just handled. If it is going to be shot a number of times within a week or two (M1 Garand) then I'll wait and do a through clean after that. But, most other guns ( shotguns, rifles) I clean before I go to bed.
Competition guns, over/under, gas guns, and pumps, every 5 to 600 rounds. The exception would be if they get wet. They get wiped down with every use. About every six months or so I remove the wood and run the actions thru my ultrasonic. It's amazing how much crap comes out of them. Field guns get a regular wipe down and a tear down when wet. A complete cleaning at the end of the season. For the wipe downs I use a 4 inch china bristle paint brush soaked with a liberal amount of CLP. Rifles get a wipe down and a thorough bore cleaning every 150 or so rounds. A bore guide is always used and I always use a nylon bore brush, never a bronze brush.

If you guys had ever seen the deep pitting corrosion in a barrel that hadn't been cleaned properly, you would clean those barrels a little more often. It can turn what was an accurate gun into one that isn't.

This^^^ The action I’ll clean a little more but the barrel gets attention once the groups start to open up.

Went through the clean them if they fire a single shot. Then I actually started shooting my guns built customs and chasing tiny groups. You tend to learn what's needed and what's not.

Me too and for my "pet rifle" it was over 20 years before the bore NEEDED to be scrubbed.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Got a 22 Winchester auto in the shed been around as long as I can remember don’t think it would work if it was clean lol
Lol. I finally took my old Savage 62 apart and cleaned it after 25 years. It would only cycle part time. Had to remove the barrel to get the bolt out of the receiver. Cleaned the firing pin Chanel lubed it up Got a solid ring of burnt carbon and lead out of the reciever am suprised it worked at all.. Put it back together and it shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger.
I did notice the sear was showing some wear and will need to watch it. Killed a lot of critters, cans, and bottles with it. Boy us it rough. Best $89 I have ever spent. Wearing a $500 VX 3I Leopold.

Like... never. Really. Other then the rifle bores. I've got 12 wingmaster I've had for 45 years. 1000s of rounds fired. I don't recall ever cleaning it and it's been through (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) n back.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Black powder for muzzleloaders is corrosive, but regular center fire ammo isn't. What's causing the pitting?

Moisture. Anything from rain, snow or even condensation when you bring you gun in from the cold into a warm moist home. Here is an example.......I have one far worse. Makes me sick to think I allowed that.

If I’m storing it for a long period of time, I’ll run a lightly oiled patch through, then give er a dry patch before I use it again. But not a full barrel cleaning.
