So how does the government get to decide to take someone off life support when their parents are still there? It’s not like it was a legal guardian situation. Maybe I’m missing something.

And also, this is why we have guns. If it was my child they planned to kill, there would be more than one death.

That sort of thing only happens there because the common folk isn't allowed to own guns. I shouldn't say any more than that.

Because the government is in charge of Healthcare. Totally in charge.

Not arguing this point, but here is a fact about our healthcare system. We spend more than any developed nation on services at the end of our lives, and rank at the very bottom on preventive measures for youth and healthy adults. Look at our belt size and drug and tobacco habits, for example. Even our diets are not great. Many get no exercise except their thumbs clicking their cell phones and their wrist movements using joy sticks.

My 98.5 year old MIL is terminal but doctors and hospitals keep performing tests and scans. She has no chance of recovery or ever feeding herself. She can not walk or control her bowels. She has no memory and her hands shake constantly. She is a lovely lady and I love here dearly but her time has come.

Other nations spend their resources on preventive measures on younger healthier patients.

You don't want to get me started about how our elderly are overdiagnosed by the medical community. My dentist said after cleaning my teeth he wanted to do a full dental X-ray of my teeth. I asked him why. He said he was only doing half of his job if he didn't do the X-rays to look at the roots of my teeth. I told him there was no reason to look at the roots of my teeth. If the root was bad my jaw would hurt. Then I told him, I went for a physical and the doctor didn't ask to do a full body CAT scan to look for things. And why would he, if I wasn't experiencing any problems. Then the dentist says if he can't do his job completely maybe he didn't need me as a patient. I told him he won't have to worry about that anymore and left.

I had two different dentists do the same thing
If they can't make 3000 they don't want you.

Your missing the point of the article. The parents didn't want her removed. The Vatican offered to treat her. The Italian PM even offered her citizenship. The court said NO. No cost to the UK health system, but they still unplugged her. The hospital said she had to die, and the government backed them up.

I'm confused too--probably because this article is an example of bad reporting. The article doesn't explain the court's reasoning or how it has the power to order removal of life support.

the amount of money spent keeping old people alive wouldn't be a PROBLEM if they didn't waste 99 percent of the money they take from us. How many millions of additional people did the dumbocrats let walk across our border and into our healthcare system?

it's the United Kingdom, James...people only have the rights the King/government say they have. and when their government pays the bills, they can dictate behavior and outcomes. too expensive? (or sets a "bad" precedent?)... so sorry.

The hospital (government) decided she was done. The parents disagreed and sued. The court (government) said their wishes didn't matter. The hospital (government) disconnected her. She is now dead. This isn't the first time this has happened in the UK. Won't be the last. Socialized medicine utopia.
