Has anyone had any experience with powder coated traps? Is it safe to boil them? I’m getting geared up to go trap some wolves and have one dozen powder coated MB-750’s and I’m not sure of the best way to get them scent free. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'd just hang them out In the wind. That powder coating dosen't absorb any odors.

I boil them with a little lye. I then boil them with some logwood dye. Not a concentration that I would use with my uncoated traps, but a handful of crystals.

It cleans them really well anyhow. Hang them outside or in bins with spruce boughs…. I don’t wax them.

It is safe to boil them, if they are powder coated white I would make sure to use clean water and a clean pot, not one that had dye in it. If they are dark powder coated it won't matter if there is residual dye.

If you have time just leaving them hung out for a couple three weeks will work, but if you have a dirty trap (like one that has made a catch) and you want to use it immediately I would boil them.

Just leave them alone and go set them. Your over thinking this scent issue.

Dirty, used traps pressure wash and hang in the sun a few days. New traps just hang out in the sun. It's amazing what UV will take care of.
