We were fishing a drop off from 4-6 feet deep. I spotted it first and said its a big one she hesitated said she wasn't sure she could spear it hard enough. I said just throw as hard as you can. After she stuck, I had her then hold the end of the handle of the spear and told her to pin it to the bottom to get the tines to go all the way through. I didn't touch anything until it was time to get it off the spear.

GCPete- we normally fillet, debone, and make into fish sticks. We put them in a ziploc freezer bag and cover in water and put in the freezer to preserve. Sometimes we fill fillet and my wife jars them and we save it for fish chowder or fish patties.

I like pike out of the cold water this time of year.

good stuff

I end up making fish sticks out of all the larger fish I leave them big pieces till thawed and then my prep is to rinse and cut into equal size pieces not to large , they fry a lot more even that way.

I have thought about boiling carcasses to make fish stock but we just don't use fish stock like we do chicken stock

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Congratulations on a great Pike. It had to be an exciting experience for her.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

When I retire, I plan to be doing some of that action. Kind of the hunting version of fishing.
