Yet if you gravel your road the rock disappears and the dirt appears life is not fair I say.

Rocks of any size are rare where I live. 20 miles west when you get out of the old lakebed of Lake Whittlesey (Erie 14,000 years ago) they are everywhere. Farm auctions tell the tale pretty good. You don't buy used discs or planters over in that rocky mess.

Once rocks are piled up and reasonably clean, there's almost always somebody that wants them. Many women spend lots of money to purchase rocks to put in their gardens and yards. The theft of rocks used in landscaping is common.

Once you disturb the earth around the rocks, they are exposed to oxygen and germinate and reproduce.

Working in a area now that is just littered will boulders to the point where we have to build our roads around them. Excavator teeth don't last too long. Last week I probably moved 2 or 3 thousand 1 or 2 meter rocks too build a km of roads. Not a good week.

In Arkansas the rocks are packed tight together in the ground. I dug up rocks to make room to plant garden plants. As soon as you dig up some, more rocks move up to take their place. There will be rocks coming up forever.

That is what I use as a reference when flagging road lines if they are sitting on top of the ground floor you can pretty much be sure that the soil is shallow. If they are in the surface then you usually have a few feet of workable material under a few feet of boulders lol.

A lot of the bigger stones at my farm are almost round . Yet our soil is clay, and good soil. The last ice age deposited the stones, when it receded. Don't know for sure, Thats what the old timers , say. old243

My buddy just bought a tine rake thinking he could pick up rocks with it against my advice. I don’t see it working with the flexibility of the tines. Smaller rocks would slip through it the bigger rocks would also. I might be wrong but I don’t think I will be, it might clear sticks in the plots or on the trails.

Now you know how the the poor colonists felt when they moved up into the Catskills, stone wall country and small fields. Some of those walls are 5 feet high and they run for thousands of feet, and yet you can't dig a hole without finding more rocks.... cool

I bought a no-till drill for my food plots for my ground because the glacier dropped all the rocks here.
