There has been a lot of research done on feeding minerals to deer. I have never seen any conclusive data on a credible study that proved mineral supplements increased weight or antler growth. Most researchers agree deer get adequate minerals to grow antlers from the plants they eat. I do like to maintain salt licks in the summer and run cameras on them just to see what is out there and watch antler development. The deer are craving salt in the spring and summer. The cheapest stock salt at the feed store will work just as good or better than other “deer mineral” concoctions.

There's so much junk online, a lot of guys with whiteboards than have the flavor of the day and never shoot trophy bucks- here's a guy that continually shoots huge bucks year after year and has done a lot of testing on captive deer.

Mineral supplementation works well in area that have less favorable forage, like out West in some areas with no ag lands.
We put out trace mineral blocks and use Whitetail 30-06 as mentioned above.
Elk really like the 06 and deer take to the TM blocks.
We have also used sheep minerals, loose. It has no added copper for the bighorns, however biologists have told us that the bighorns in our area are copper deficient so some copper in minerals is ok.
Doe hit them harder in fawning and nursing season. Bucks come in to the sites all season.

Salt is just that salt, deer need the trace minerals as well. At least use a TM block , not just salt.

I've tried them all. Now I use just straight cobalt loose stock salt worked into the ground. Moose and elk I use salt blocks but deer prefer to eat the dirt compared to licking a block like elk and.moose do.

We dumped a 20# bag of dicalcium sulphate on a rotting stump, and the deer ate the entire stump and the underlying soil down 2 feet deep in about a months time. They left a walking hazzard crater.

Probably meant Dicalcium phosphate
