Thirty-Six years ago today Markets crashed with a 22.6% drop in a single day. Noted as Black Monday. I really don't remember it but I'm sure I was aware of the vent at the time. I was to busy with life and markets/retirement/financially events wasn't at the top of my priority list.

Yes I remember that day clearly . We settled on our to be built house that day After 10 years of renting we where able to find a lot and a builder And we where within about 6 months of becoming a new owner first time homeowner. Got home from themeeting with the builder ,bank representative and finalized the paperwork Got home and was packing my gear to go on an archery hunting trip to W VA Was only going for 5 days but it was my first trip out of state to go deer hunting .Got a call from my frantic mother in law concerning the market crash She was positive it was doomsday . And we should take all necessary means to stop and get out of the deal .After a long conservation she still was certain it was the worst mistake we ever made .Now the house has been paid off for 18 years We have been able to make several different improvements and is worth about 4 times what we paid for it Yes it was a bad time for many people But in most cases it was another bump in the road of life . .

Changed my life forever, it was the end of my professional trapping career. Went to college and became a writer and trapped part time from then on.

I remember that and how the fur market crashed and burned for 5 years or so after that

I remember the day, just walked in the house from feeding the foxes, cows, and pigs

Made 25 grand a year at that time, had great credit but couldn't get a used car loan in its aftermath

Was 20 years old at time. Ended trapping as my family had known it. Good percentage of the older guys I knew hung it up at that time. My dad trapped two years after. He’s never set a trap since then.

But it was a good financial learning time. Id been invested in stock market for five years at that time. Have got to ride thru lots of varying corrections and bulls since then.
