I Find the opposite in this neck of the woods. Elders are esteemed for their depth of knowledge in the life skills. When I was young I always would seek out the oltimers to hang out with in the bush to learn their skills.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

About as rewarding as setting folks up and never hearing from them after that again after they got what they wanted. How do you feel about that? Not pleased I am sure. I have had times when people ask me for a value or opinion on something and because its not what they want to hear(I assume) they never respond. Kind of gets me after making the effort to try and help them.

Wish I had that opportunity to have mentors like that in life .I raised myself since I was seven so I learned thru trial and error.

I find it disappointing but no biggie I’d do it again. it’s the ones that ones that go to no ends to prove you wrong or say you said what you never did say that I can’t stand.

You may think I am kidding but I am not. I was raised by my uncle until I was seven. One day I went out to the outhouse to check on him and the door was locked with no response back. I was on my own after that.

Just because the person who asked the question doesn't seem to appreciate your input, does not mean there are not others who read it and are glad you posted it. To me it's not about getting a pat on the back, it's about helping if I think I can. I'm still not sure what the original question was. lol

I only interject my opinion if it's something I know well enough to help with or add another idea about helping with the question/s
I will add things sometimes in certain areas I know quite a bit about even if that question has been answered, albeit improperly in my view, it is not malicious in any form, but may seem pretty directed in correction, you can see that in many questions answered here with others doing that, and it usually will derail the original topic !
Been here long enough to know whether its a real question or a barn fire starter LOL, don't like those they are just time consumers and I value my time high enough to not spend efforts in arguments that don't seem relative to the original questions
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

Some questions may not be to serious but they could be fun to interject your opinion. Certainly there are people who only want to start a threat because they feel the need to be included.

If it's trapping related question that I have actual experience with I will usually offer an answer.
If it's a building/construction/carpentry/remodeling type question I will usually not answer. That is my area of expertise. It seems like everybody considers themselves to be experts in that category so I just let them answer. Sometimes while reading the comments I'm just shaking my head.
All other topics, it depends on a lot of factors; does the question seem legitimate and well thought out? Is there enough detail? Have two dozen internet experts already answered and do I feel like having a keyboard disagreement with them? Has someone with obvious knowledge on the subject already answered?
Eh...wot?

I like to answer questions about surgical procedures, rocket tecknology, and quantum phisics, because I know about that stuff. I answer all questions, because I know nothing. Ain’t American equality great!?

Lots of googlers and parroters chime in. But there is always a couple you can tell are giving the first hand advice. It doesn't take long to sort them out on here. You might not care for someone for any numbers of reasons but that doesn't make them wrong.

There are lots of very knowledgeable folks here, folks with expertise in all kinds of subjects. They aren't hard to spot, sometimes you just have to sort through the crap to find them.

I like to answer questions about surgical procedures, rocket tecknology, and quantum phisics, because I know about that stuff. Best thing about quantum physics is you can be simultaneously wrong and right at the same time. Or you might be wrong today but right tomorrow and vice versa. Same thing with astrophysics.
