Auto workers should not have a union. They should be lucky to have a non skill job.

The bean counters at OICA the industry group that represents the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, says the numbers just won't add up for the public consumer. If the UAW gets what it's asking for, a 40% weekly raise coupled with a 20% decrease in hours worked (32) hours a week. Complete healthcare coverage for life, guaranteed income until you die, Cost of living adjustments for their retirement benefits (in addition to social security increases). Guaranteed compensation in the event of a plant shutdown, in case of a shift to electric vehicle production (this is going to happen) and in the event of a permanent plant shutdown if electric vehicles don't become mainstream successful. Since the 2nd biggest costs of building a vehicle is at the moment labor (labor will become the biggest cost) the price of a new f-150 4x4 will be well over 100K. Granted, executive compensation has become stupid but there are very few highly paid executives percentage wise in the industry. I guess we all need to run traplines on electric bikes in the future, or EV tricycles with a basket in back.

Are you breaking over 100k a year ? Have better health insurance and retirement than everyone else you know?
Well I do. Been over 100 since the first week of Oct could have been in Sept. Enjoying some of my 4 weeks paid vacation now.

Those dues are a less than a tank of gas. As far as investing if you make enough you can max out your 401 and I enjoy that 6% match as well. It's a good gig. I can't find anything as close and have been looking 6 years so I can not have to be 127 miles from home to work.

And you want a 40% raise, work 20% less hours and guaranteed income and healthcare for life, with as good as you have it now, having better health insurance and retirement than anyone you know? That's a perfect formula for inflation for everyone else.

There's more to it than that. The consumer dives prices too. Want a brand new car every couple of years instead of pre owned. The prices will keep going up cause the guy that needs new will keep paying the price. There's lots of em out there. Many that can't even afford it. You know. The ones that finance more than 3 years. Thank them too.

Not quite true, the plant that makes the F-150 EV Lightning is on strike. This will throw EV Ford truck sales off the rails for quite a while. hopefully cause Biden considerable heartburn.

This will drive the price of used vehicles through the roof if the strike lasts. Pretty much puts the public consumer SOL all the way around.

LOL F150 EV sales were plummeting before the strike.

There are 3 Ford plants on strike

1. Michigan Assembly = Bronco/Ranger
2. Chicago Assembly = Explorer
3. Kentucky Truck = F250, F350, Expedition

The plant that builds the EV F150 is not on strike

Correct on the sales. No one wants an EV truck

You're right, I googled that and found that I was incorrect, It's a big layoff not a strike. This however is a consequence of the strike at the Chicago assembly plant, where they normally produce parts that are used for the production of Ford EV's, now those parts are not needed until the strike is over. Still causing Biden considerable heartburn all the same. And, anyone that wants a new truck gas or EV that doesn't make 150K a year to afford the new and improved price (after this).

Maybe they should cross the picket line and show the company what they got for 15 bucks a hour . Looks like a job opportunity

The inflation has already happened.

And yes I would like a 40 percent raise and 20 percent less hours worked only an idiot wouldn't. Now that doesn't mean its practical nor prudent.

I guarantee that shearable beaver are 40 percent under valued.

Something else is that raise all art once or do they get say 10% each year for the 4 year contract totaling 40% for the life of the contract.

My last contract was steped like that. 5% 4.5% ext totaled 17% over the contract. Probably a touch more since the increase % each year was an increase that includes the raise from the year before.

We get it. Seriously unions are th cause of all you union haters problems. You can't get or Handel the jobs and hate all that are currently doing much better than you. You cat comprehend how when 200 people I'm an area are paid well they have disposable income and spend it in the local economy bettering it. It also forced the other employers to increase pay and benefits since thay now have ro compete for the same labor.

For all of you that think truck prices would be lowered if the factory workers were paid 15$ an hour and no benefits tell me why the trucks made in Mexico in those exact conditions are the same price as the ones made here and the workers are paid what they are paid and get their benefits that thay do. If labor was why they were so high priced the Mexican made truck would only be 15 to 20 k. But they are not.

Heck how about they make a simple work truck you can pressure wash out with out all the fancy extras that add 20k worth of options. Asked my friend in management at Ford that. He said it takes as much time on the line to make an expensive option truck as it does a striped truck and the added cost to Ford is very small but return much higher so they don't make the base models.

Mostly it's just a case of a lot of jealous people wishing they had such a good job with benefits. You Don't and want to point your fingers. It's very clear.

I am betting you'd have to buy something from the 70s or 80s and restore it. Might be fun but I doubt it would be cheap.

If the price of used vehicles is high also it wont make a difference if you trade in every couple years.
The extra cost of new will be offset by the increased value of your trade in.
