Got a small eight last week and a doe this evening. Hoping a big one will move in when the rut starts in a couple weeks. Nothing real big on camera yet this year. How big is as small 8 in your neck of the woods? I would love to hunt some of the small 8s i see folks shooting in other states. Small, was just a 2.5 year old. These ozark deer aren't like midwest deer.
Poor people have poor ways.

Normal,8 point is 140 inch to kill at 4 years old It takes a big 8 to get to 140" around here, our normal 8 pointers are 120 to 125" and those are mostly 3.5 to 4.5 year old deer.140" 8 pointer is a wall hanger here,a 130's 8 pointer is a very good buck!

Normal,8 point is 140 inch to kill at 4 years old That’s a stud 8 at 4.5. We kill them, but not at 4.5. Takes a little longer than that here. We’re “trying” to take the 8’s before they get that old. Already starting to see more 10’s running around. Still have some whacked racks running around that need taken as well. The deer my DIL shot wasn’t supposed to be shot, but we gave her a pass for her first archery deer, lol.

Put meat in the freezer tonight with a doe. Now sit back and wait for a good buck. The pressure is off. That feels good, doesn't it. Always my plan, but to do it with the least disturbance to the property. Also good to have a couple different properties so you can get the early doe and leave the other alone.

Head home this weekend I got my MO doe then come back a week before rifle opens in MO when it’s closer to the rut then. Stick around for the rifle opener to help out a new hunter friend. He got a doe last year I’ll try to get him to hold out for a buck this go around.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
