That's a shotgun. Looks like a Mossberg 500. You'll be spitting out #6 shot. Thought you Texans were crack shots with a .22 on squirrel. Right in the eye.

All we have are fox squirrels here. Unless you get a real young one they pull like a coyote and are tough as shoe leather. I prefer cottontail rabbits. I may have to make a drive one day to get to some gray squirrels, never shot one.

That's why I skin them as soon as they hit the ground.
Many times killed another while skinning one.
You're right though , let them get cool and they skin as hard as a coyote !

Grays are just as tough. They are acrobats. Slow cooking is key to eating them.

I always use # 4 shot , for everything, wing shooting or on the run.
Same with turkey.
Less pellets to remove from the flesh , and it only takes one pellet to kill them.
Had friends give me squirrel , they shot with # 6 shot, full of pellets , wondered how many times they shot them.
Learned that as a kid , when eating rabbits or squirrel , spitting out those pellets , biting into them , just didn't fit into my way of thinking.
Rather spit water melon seeds any day, the heck with plastic tasting seedless ones.

Never really liked hunting squirrel with a 22 , had to be too careful with shooting with a back stop.
Miss them in a tree , where does that bullet come down?

Ah, pretty isolated where I'm at. Can usually shoot into the tree to make it safe. Or catch em' on the ground.
Early season with the leaves on, I shoot em' with a shotgun too sometimes. Great fun.
I'd about rather squirrel hunt than deer hunt, and so much easier to carry out of the woods.
Little grays are the best eating IMO.

Savell, I don't work, I'm retired. This afternoon, winterized my river boat, flipped it over on the trailer till spring.

Don't know of anyone ever being shot by a wayward 22 round. I have hunted in woods where there were lots of 22 shots ringing out and felt plenty safe. Savell, you're gonna have to put a LOT of dumplings with that to feed those starving young'uns you gots.

I practice putting a interested look on my face before I get to the house and have to listen to a long winded story about how the old ladies day at work went. How a 30 second story turns into 60 minutes I have no idea.

Surely you must have something better to eat then those tree rats. Boil up the recoil pad on that scatter gun might be a start.
