I figure someone here will know what these are. Can't quite put my finger on it.

These trees are located in a place we duck hunt. I'm not sure if the wood ducks are eating these acorns or not. These trees are in the water a lot of the time, you can see the water line on the trunk

They drop an acorn that almost has a purple color to it

Thoughts?

Looks like it was flooded ? Or is the way the base looks natural?

Yes sir they are usually under water but the lack of rain for the last month or so has them dry now

Tupelo gum, grows in swamp bottoms. Deer will eat the seed pods.

Water Tupelo. Swell butts like bald cypress. Deer will eat the flesh of the fruit and squirrels will eat the hard seed. A lot of birds will eat them also. I’m sure wood ducks wil eat them but I have never witnessed it.

Old time duck decoy carvers favored the butt wood for carving decoys also.

That's great info gents, I greatly appreciate it. We don't see those too often in my neck of the woods. Maybe in the Eastern part of the state they are more common
