I have one. One of my favorites. Wanted one growing up but couldn’t afford one. Once I graduated votech I saved up and w a ruger m77 in one. I have the big brother also. The hornaday SST out of it are bad medicine on deer.

On my third one. A Winchester M70, a Remmy 700 and now a custom FN commercial mauser with douglas barrel. It's actually 257 AI. Great cartridge as already stated.

Yes the Ruger No 1 in 257 Roberts always has a special appeal to me .I saw a Weatherby .257 mag left handed for sale a long time ago in a local newspaper The price was right and I have wanted one But like a dumbbutt head that I am I ended up passing on it STILL ONE OF THE DUMBEST GUN BUYING MOVES I EVER DIB NOT MAKE . Ended up buying an almost new one in aRuger M 77 I really like it

WSR 151 I wish I had known you 20 years ago, i found a decorative looking Sako in .25-06 and priced to move out! It was only when the guy handed it to me I realized it was a lefty and I was sick. I called every one of my left handed buddies and they all said the had to train themselves to work a right handed bolt.

Speaking of Sako, if anyone is looking for a super nice one in .270 Win there is a pawn shop in Round Rock for $1200

I have had one in Ruger 77. Have killed many deer, antelope, an elk and last fall, a nice bighorn sheep. The sheep, after waiting almost 40 years for a tag. Oh, and mine is in the ultra light, with scope, weighing about 7 pounds, nice.

With the lack of recoils the little Roberts has I would think it would be an idea candidate for an ultra light rifle. I can only imagine how proud you are of the things you have done with that rifle. I might be a little bit jealous.

Fun fact.......in Hodgdon 2022 annual reloading manual, 257 Roberts was dropped. They got dinged for dropping a bunch of popular but "obsolete" calibers, so in 2023, 257 Roberts is back.

I've got a nearly 50 year old Rem 6mm that a bore scope reveals coast to coast heavy pitted corrosion, so barrel is toast. When deciding what to go back with, it was a tossup between 257 Roberts, which is the parent cartridge of the 6mm Rem, or the 6mm Rem. Since I already had factory ammo and several hundred pieces of new brass, dies and a pant load of 6mm bullets, am going back with 6mm Rem.

If I could have been assured of a supply of ammo or brass, the Bob would have been strongly considered. BTW, if somebody really wants one, it is a simple barrel swap away.

In the 1970.s when I was just starting out as a hunter left handed bolt action rifles where not very common .So I got a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem caliber It was a nice gun but my desire was to have a bolt action.. I bought a Ruger in 25.06 I loved hat gun and it killed a number of deer fo me it had a 22 o24 inch barrel I don't recall for sure and t had iron sights on it It was heavy and with the sights it was not a god choice to carry in the brush or use in tree stand . Next came a M 77 in 280 caliber It add a few more to deer my success All the while my like for the Ruger M 77 growing. Severa more found their way to my now collection All Rugers and all right handed I killed on a regular basis Plus was able to reduce the ground hog population .As far as shooting a right handed action So long as it was a straight stock and the gun fit me I had no issue shooting right handed bolt actions Of course the tang safety was a help I will say ove the years I missed some der while using the M 77.s. But it was because using a right handed bolt caused me to get enough shoots at the deer It was operator error that was the reason for any of the misses

A 25.06 a 280 a 308 a 284 a 257 Roberts and a 264 mag plus some others where residents in my gun safe at some point in time And the ones I don't have now are often missed 35 years or more have passed since I passed the chance of getting that 257 Weatherby mag . And I am still kicking my butt And while on the subject of that Sako I you mentored In 1978 I started out looking for SAKO in a 25.06 an ended up with the same caliber in a Ruger M77 i have been told that at one time I owned too many guns My only response ro the idea that you can only shoot one at a time so that is all you need . I also only have 2 feet but have more than one pair of shoes .I have enjoyed this post that was started out on the 257 Roberts It was a good caliber and remains an all American classic .
