My middle brother had one done in August ended back up in hospital with a skin infection for four days and since everything has been great for him , his advice is to adhere to the docs orders and if there is anything you feel is wrong get to the doctor better safe than sorry

I went rabbit hunting w my son in January, Next morning I could not straighten my left leg. Im 66yo and close to 100lb overweight. Went for 6 months like that. Was hobbling out of a local gunshop and a guy followed me out to my car and asked If I ever heard of Topee Tea. Its a concoction imported from Thailand to solve our problems. Buy it at health food/vitamin stores. I stopped on the way home and bought some. Took 2 bags when i got home. Woke up at 3am and all pain gone and leg straight! All Amish here know about! I went into store in Millersburg and asked for dirt... Amish woman said OK right here! Try it, I know you live around Amish. If you can read one word in english on the pack it aint the right stuff

You better get a 2nd or 3rd opinion fast. Better leg DR’s out there. Dr telling you that you will gave 50% damage after surgery is only worried about you suing him. Guarantee that. Get up to Mao clinic ASAP. MD

I have about 50% damage because of infected tissue that was removed. Missing some necessary parts in my left knee. Two replacements and five surgeries on same knee.

You can adapt to a lot of things. PT is important.

I had my ACL reconstructed and the same knee meniscus scooped out by a sports orthopedic specialist in OKC three years ago. I am so glad that I researched past my local ortho’s referral of procedure. Bottom line, second, even third opinions should be sought.
The day after surgery my post op treatment included a passive range of motion machine that cycled my knee through a huge range of motion while I waited out my no-fly time due to blood clot concerns. When I got back home folllow up specialist could not believe the range of motion that I had with my knee. He asked what had gone down and when I told him of the machine that had cycled my knee for six days he said that was “old way of doing things”. The guy that did my ACL reconstruction also went a different route than what my referred method of procedure was to be. I trusted him, he had a couple of Heisman Trophy fellows in his history of procedures.

See if you can find a surgeon who specializes in sports medicine.
Any Dr. that tells me that I will sustain permanent damage from being immobilized from his prescribed procedure is not likely a practitioner of cutting edge procedures. He may well be one of those Dr's who graduated in the bottom half of his class.
You need a top of his class Dr. who keeps up with the latest innovations.

The first recommendation was good enough for me to look into it, the 2nd sealed it. Can't get any better than that!!

My daughter had both knees done, no metal but cadaver parts. She used that machine both times. She experienced some pain with it but she’s good to go now.

I have a neighbor that has No strength in his legs and walks sparingly. I had to go over last night again and help him up after he had fallen.

My thirteen year old was born with Spina Bifida. He can walk about 20 yards with crutches but has to use a wheel chair for most of his mobility. His bedroom is upstairs and he has learned how to get up and down the stairway on his own. He has chores he has to do. I have a zero turn lawn mower so he mows the yard. He loves to go deer hunting and normally fills his tag.

I have a friend I served with and he lost a leg and his left arm is buggered up. He drives around the country visiting friends and family. He takes his grand daughter deer hunting every year.

I know this is a big set back in life for you but you can do what you set your mind to. You might not be able to do as much as before but I'm betting you'll find away.

I wish you the best, Mr. Keith

And just when we think WE have it tough.
I went the other way Keith, I’m on the list for artificial meniscus to be put in my knees. They have approved the procedure in the US, I’m having it done in Salt Lake City. May not be an option you like but I do.

I was in a bad accident years ago busted up my right knee bad tore off my kneecap and busted up my joint, also my left wrist, I was in hospital for a month, leg and arm cast for 3 months, all I can say is do the P T, it's going to hurt, but do it or you won't get back to close to normal. I've had two more surgery on the same knee over the years.but I can do what I want

I trashed the top of my tibia 12 years ago, (5 screws to secure the broken piece and some damage to the ACL), and after 7 weeks of crutches and wheelchair I started to get back on it and could drive. At the farm I slipped on some wet rocks and broke it again along with both sides of my ankle. 6 more weeks of crutches and wheelchair.

It took a long time to get back my strength in that leg, but it did come back. I'm 64 now and do any kind of work that I could do before the accident. My leg isn't straight through the knee, but I have no pain.

I wish you the best and yes, the PT is critical and will make you feel better after the pain goes away.

Good luck.

Pete
