My son-inlaw from Baltimore hated working for a "boss" so he started building model train layouts on 4'x8' sheets of plywood 30 years ago for people on the East Coast. Now his business has grown to doing huge, multi-million dollar layouts all over the world. He's the owner/artist/designer/laborer of a 3-employee business. Here is an example of his work for a fella down in Florida. The guy built a building just to house the model train layout. He has projects scheduled for Idaho and one in California on the docket. Please view this photonof the layout on a large screen so you can see the detail. Once a year Sir Rod Stewart flys my step-daughter and son-inlaw out to Vegas or over to somewhere in England for a couple of shows and to tinker on Sir Rod's train layout which he's big into.

That is great,What a good job to have, building and playing with model railroads and getting paid big money to travel and hang out with people like Rod Stewart.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Nice. I like them too. Anybody ever near Cheyenne Wyoming needs to go to the UP museum and see their model train up on the second floor.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Thanks folks! He started out making 4’x8’ layouts for people in and around Baltimore MD then it spread out to NYC and Washington DC. Soon he was doing work for high-end restaurants doing overhead trains. After that, museums started contracting him to do historic layouts and it just continued to snowball from there.

Very nice !!
Iam an O Guage model RR nut. Since 1999. Nevah had trains when I was a kid But got them for my kids when they were young..and now I am the only one playing with them..lol
There's a lot to it.. Wiring..electronics..
You can run them with your phone now.
Making mountains,roads,buildings, trees,landscaping.
Smoke machines...lights.. Ever since the computer chip hit the trains ...anything is possible
It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.

Growing up back in the 70 and 80's, my uncle had a 4'x8' layout with bridges, mountains, buildings, and the works. Big switch board as well. After he passed, I had to move all that. Unfortunately, I had to take all the track up and get rid of a lot of the land scape. I still have all the equip in the attic. Hot Rod Stewart as well.
